    It's called "Search"! ;)

I've been on DI for about two years, and while many of the same questions come up, there are enough new ones to keep things interesting, at least for me. I have to say, though, that I'm glad that folks like Ted are so good at pointing those with redundant questions to older threads where they've already been answered.

I think it must be the fact that I'm one of the old history majors on board that causes me to enjoy digging through the archives to find old threads. When I first arrived on board in February 2005, I started accumulating a .doc file on my computer desktop, with threadlinks, of old DI threads on schools and majors that might be of interest to myself or those close to me. In creating DITHRD.doc, I found that clicking on the mouse on a web address in a .doc file while simultaneously holding down the control key will indeed take you to the desired thread (or other website, as the case may be). Little did I realize the problems we would run into changing servers in May 2005. WHILE THE PROBLEM SEEMS FIXED SOMEWHAT, THE NUMBER OF THREADS FROM 2002 AND 2003 ALWAYS SEEMS A BIT THINNER THAN THREADS FROM OTHER YEARS. Also, as an old business major, I think collecting all the old threadlinks on this, that, and the other degree or all the weblinks for this, that, and the other degree provides one with what is known in marketing as location convenience ... or, in more popular terms, one-stop shopping. But, glad to be of service!

I'm not aware that it is ever unnecessary nor unwarranted.

I guess the trolls at military forums will have a field day with this one

When I wrote that joke I actually had in mind a period during the eighties when every film had to have a nude scene with more or less sexual content. Whether it was needed or not in order to make the movie more effective didn’t matter too much to directors and producers. Thus, there is this hilarious scene in the movie “Airplane”, with Leslie Nielsen where everybody was screaming, terrified for the plane they were traveling with was going down, and they were about to die inexorably, but still, in the midst of such a chaotic parade of grotesque characters and unforgettable gags, a quick, burlesque, absolutely unnecessary nude scene appeared. It was not only a parody of the film industry panorama, but also a caricature of a society that could have such bizarre demands. My joke yesterday was intended to be just that, a satire in the specific context provided by Steve Levicoff’s joke, and the recent controversy in this board. What a pity I have had to elucidate it.....

Aw, geez! Hopefully, y'all were aware that I, too, was joking when I "cautioned" you about what those other forums might be saying about us requisitioning gratuitous sex and pornography. Weren't y'all? After all, why would anyone smart enough to be over here care what they're saying over there?

I knew you were joking, Ted, and I am pretty sure everyone else did. I don´t care about that military forum either, and as far as I am concerned they don´t exist. But I also realize that some people here post under their real name, so I thought I quickly provide an explanation....

I have been actively participating in this forum since 2002. That was the year when I first returned to school to complete the my BS degree. However, I don't really post all that often unless I see a topic that strikes my fancy or if a nuub asks a question about a topic on which I have some amount of knowledge or experience. I may have been posting a bit less recently because I'm taking one of the hardest courses I have had to date. Depending on how I performed on a recent exam, I may start to consider this my roughest semester. I believe this professor bases his grading on a curve; otherwise, I almost certainly flunked my first exam on which I only knew how to solve three problems out of six for sure and I'm crossing my fingers on a fourth problem. The other two, I'm still scratching my head on. I find it more stressful to be in a course whose grades are determined by a curve because I don't really know how well I'm doing unless the professor makes all the grades or meaningful statistics about the grades available.

Of course this has me thinking about that old (and tired) joke about out-running a hungry bear -- I don't have to out-run the bear, I just have to out-run YOU!!! In a way the demanding crucible of grad school is fun -- as long as I keep making progress.

I am racking my brain here, but I cannot for the life of me remember a nude scene in 'Airplane'. Surely you are not mistaken?

Yes, I know it for sure. What might have happened is that you probably saw that movie in America where some scenes get routinely censured whereas here in Europe we get to see the entire thing. Another typical example is National Lampoon Vacation with Chevy Chase and Beverly D`Angelo. Remember that one? Well, it also contains nude scenes, but were not shown in American theaters and tv´s for obvious reasons (look at Janet Jackson´s Superbowl scandal).

I have found this article on the internet. Take a look at the middle of the second paragraph where they explain the nudity scene. :p

Airplane? Was that the one where one of the crew members was named Ted Striker and every time another crew member yelled "Striker!" he really did strike her?

Well, I guess that, as movies about totally moronic individuals named Ted go, that one was nowhere near as bad as "There's Something About Mary."

    Surely, you can't be serious!

Yes, I am serious and don't call me Shirley.

"Airplane" is one of my favorite comedies as well. I love a god pun and other word play. I was not aware of the nude scene either, but then I wouldn't be surprised. I was aware of a nude scene or two in the National Lampoon "Vacation" movies, so I may have been outta the country when I saw them.

I also agree it's sad when one needs to explain one's humor, therefore, I won't. :D

Praise whatever Higher Power you believe in that Tim D saw my little inside 'Airplane' joke. One of my favorites, by the way.

I think it was the scene that the flight attendent explained what was going on with the plane. None of the passengers cared about what she was saying until she said, "oh, and we are out of coffee.." Then, everyone freaked out and some chick with no shirt on runs in front of the camera.

It's been a while since i've seen the movie myself... But I do remember some brief nudity... As a matter of fact, that's the ONLY part I remember :D .

It seems to me that in the past, "newbies" like me accounted for about ten percent of the questions, while about half a dozen senior members accounted for 90 percent of the answers and other posts.

Now that those half dozen or so members have left, yes...things have been slower than in the past. However, compared to some other message boards I read, this place is still very lively.

Dead? No. Not as active as in the past because people who posted dozens of messages each day have left? Sure.

I'm not saying their input isn't missed. It sure is. However, I myself have received some very worthwhile information here despite the "Great Flood" or exodus or whatever you want to call it.

I, for one, am not leaving...for my own benefit.

Well, since evil robot Ted has a full-on robot chubby, that rules me out for that one!

    Ha!

This movie actually made a lot of money in the box office with lines like that ? :D
