Make no mistake about it: anyone who wants to be a politician wants it for one reason, and that is because they enjoy having power and control over other people's lives.

Another nice-sounding campaign promise that'll never be fulfilled.

And which half would they cut/repeal?

I think this is almost always right, but there are a few rare exceptions -- who, not coincidentally, get labeled by those in the establishment as nutjobs or the lunatic fringe.

    Bernie Sanders... perfect example.

And who the bleep is Bernie Sanders?

First of all, why have your most recent replies to my posts been, at least, mildly offensive?

Secondly, Bernie Sanders is an Independent US Senator from Vermont... well known for many things, but among them an 8 1/2 hour filibuster just about two years ago.

Understand that there is a vast difference between what a political candidate says he/she will do and what a politician does once in office. That is because, while a candidate they say what they would like to do, but upon becoming a politician they suddenly realize that they need the support of a bunch of fellow politicians to get things done.

Absolutely. If only this were realized by the majority of voters in the United States. The whole concept of "voting for president" in the US has basically become a faith-based cultic process. In this race, it almost seems as if more than half of the voters would rather have a Czar or King, rather than an administrative figurehead.

Also Ted, you gave some rather bold replies to some of my posts earlier but haven't continued. I'm interested in your thoughts and have compiled them below just in case you were planning on saying anything more.

    1. I genuinely thought that what you were saying was that a vote for a major party candidate is wasted because one could have voted for a (probably unelectable) third party candidate.
    2. I was out of line to ask who the bleep Bernie Sanders was.

Here's a thought. It would be interesting to see what would happen if we passed an amendment to the Constitution that revokes the part that throws the presidential election into the House of Representatives if no candidate gets a majority in the Electoral College and replace it with a system in which the two biggest vote-getting parties compete for the support of the third parties (probably by bribing the third parties with cabinet positions).

That alone is why I don't understand how grown adults--especially highly educated ones--who gave up on the idea of Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny a long time ago, continue to waste so much time and energy arguing about a process that is a proven dog and pony show.

Both candidates engaged in the show with the same bull, and whoever was going to win was going to do the same thing: fail to keep most of if not all the promises they made during the election. Obama won and you can bet that he won't be keeping really any promises, and he damn sure isn't going to make anything better. If Romney won it would be no different. Even if these guys weren't both two dishonest globalists it wouldn't matter, because the office of President is a puppet office, an office of spokesperson at best. They do what the banks, corporations, and the international authorities tell them to do, not what the American people want. The Government in general simply doesn't do what the American people want nor do they do much that's in the best interest of us from the crap they allow into our water, foods, and medicines, to the endless stream of policies and new bills that continue to decrease our freedoms.

Even though Romney would've done the same job anyway, it really says something about the American people when they can first elect a guy who wasn't even qualified to be President in the first place, who then under his watch drove the country further into the abyss, disrespected the Constitution so many times in so many ways that he should've not only been impeached but arrested and executed (NDAA, war on Libya without congressional approval, public nose-thumbings at the Constitution); and then after all of that... they re-elect the clown.

Things are about to get much worse over the next 4 years. I expect unemployment numbers to at least double which will in turn provide an increase in crime, fuel prices to skyrocket to the point that record numbers of people won't be able to afford to drive their cars any more, another major war to engage shortly since our Government just can't stop bothering and bullying other nations (namely those of Islamic heritage), and for more freedoms to be taken away under the guise of "National Security". I hope those things don't happen, but I'm expecting it.

Barrack Obama was reelected … but far too many are not about to be hired.

The positive side: A sleeping giant will be awakened … mainstream America!

Right wing needs to drop the social issues; i.e Gay Marriage, Abortion, etc, etc. It can never be the same.

That's awesome...give up things you hold sacrosanct and you can have what you want. Maybe it's not worth the cost.

I think what's really choking Republicans' electoral success is that their anti-immigrant and pro-English positions have driven many Latinos away from them who otherwise might be interested in their positions. That's a really serious strategic error, especially for the medium to long term.

So if social issue positions conflict with those endorsed by the DNC … :eek:h:

This was not some narrow edged defeat. This was massive. Keep your head in the sand and scream na-na-na all you want. Republicans lost the woman vote, lost the asian vote, lost the hispanic vote (Bush had 40%). The Democrats kicked our asses with their campaign. Dirty campaign? Sure, but that does not matter. They convinced woman that if Romney won, rape would be legal and that is enough to sway large amounts of people. The liberals keep painting conservatives as racist and it has worked wonders. The country has officially shifted to more takers than makers. Gonna start taking mine now and that is what I will teach my children to do. If conservatives want to win they have to give up on gay marriage and abortion and run on pure fiscal matters. Still won't matter too much. More takers. We'll see how it works.

I agree with you on this. I don't suppose it much matters why anymore really. It is a new reality, better to accept it and move on. I won't compromise any significant principles as we head to the collective abyss just the same.
