Not sure why police officers were making these snarky remarks in the article, but there should be 'calm' and advocates should do their best to have any possible charges made be completed if at all possible...

This is weird, Taekwondo instructors should be teaching the following, but the instructor didn't do any of that... It could have been totally avoided if they followed through with such teachings!

    - Relaxation and meditation exercises, as well as breathing control
    - A focus on mental and ethical discipline, etiquette, justice, respect, self-confidence, and leadership skills

No it's not. Since when is it 'weird' for someone in ANY occupation - or discipline - or religious cleric, of any faith, for that matter -- to be overwhelmed by mental illness and do something terrible, that a sane person would not do.

It's terrible - but it happens. There's a "why" here - but I'll leave that to the professionals. Obviously, no discipline, art or science is going to proof someone against any mental illness of any magnitude. Any more than you can say some random guy / woman won't get cancer.

It's foolish to think a catastrophe like this can be prevented by any art or discipline - any more than it can be prevented by having an MBA or other degree.

As to the police incident -- what can I say. Police gonna police. It's become almost the norm -- and again, I think work stress may be behind a lot of police violence. If one side - police or someone they interact with, is perceived as threatening, the other side will respond in kind. Again, that's for the professionals.

I know basically how it works - but not how to cure it.

I know basically how it works - I was a debt collector for the major part of my working life. That can be pretty adversarial. Quite a few times a day. Every day. For years. I brought it home - the only thing it killed was my marriage. I haven't collected debts for nearly 40 years now. But I know I'm still that same guy I became, that could do the job well, This old leopard can't change his spots - I doubt if many police can.

None of this is "weird." I know. But yes - it's all very, very sad.
