Please help clear my brain fog.

    1. Harvard, and or UNC, were using Affirmative Action as part of the admissions process to deny admission only to Asians with high GPAs and high test scores?

    2. After SCOTUS decision saying you cannot use Affirmative Action as part of the admissions process, going forward, Asians with high GPAs and high test scores will now be admitted to Harvard and other schools?

More will be. UC Berkeley as well, IIRC. And good for them: if Asian-American kids have worked that hard, then they deserve it.

I agree. You shouldn't be penalized because you are Asian. I read a story about an Asian American with top grades and credentials and yet denied admission to more than one top school (believe it was graduate level). It seems bizarre and yet it is a routine occurrence.

They also seem to suffer some of the worst stereotyping in Hollywood (very limiting) even in 2023.

Thanks for the responses. Thinking those have help clear some things up for me.

The end goal was never to directly remedy the Asian students that were wronged. The end goal was to dismantle Affirmative Action. That goal was achieved.

    a) college admissions is more than high GPAs & high test scores - if that was the case a College application would be simple and short to fill in: name, address, dob, gpa and test scores
    b) a direct remedy would have been, do not misuse Affirmative Action to deny applications for Asians with high GPAs & high test scores and follow these steps to achieve that
    c) court decision was a broad brush approach to remove the use of Affirmative Action for admissions into colleges/universities

    Historical Context??

-Blacks not admitted to colleges/universities with Whites because of their race
    --that became illegal
    -Blacks still denied admissions
    -Enter Affirmative Action
-Blacks that qualify are now being admitted due to Affirmative Action

    Backlash:
    NO QUOTAS. NO AFFIRMATIVE ACTION.
Basically, we don’t want Blacks to attend? Just like the previous generations thought the same thing because we will never hear mentioned instead of Affirmative Action try this?

-White person denied admission, lawsuit all the way to the Supreme Court to remove Affirmative Action
--rinse and repeat until you get Affirmative Action removed and still not removed

-Asians with high GPAs & high tests scores denied admissions to colleges/universities, lawsuit all the way to the Supreme Court
--some opinions: it’s that Affirmative Action letting in Black students with GPAs & test scores lower than mine and remove Affirmative Action (more Whites than Blacks are admitted with lower scores but we will ignore that (legacy admissions) because more Whites are in the population and Blacks are only 13% of the population)

-Supreme Court finally rules no Affirmative Action use in college/university admissions
--can talk about race on an essay
--Affirmative Action can be used in the military

Next? Strike down Affirmative Action regarding employment? Strike down desegregation? Strike down every thing that helped Blacks? Even though what helped Blacks opened the door to help others.

Just look at the lawsuits at the lower courts bubbling their way up to the Supreme Court.

I expect the plaintiffs would disagree.

I seriously doubt it, since that would be the opposite of this ruling.

I found it interesting that the Court explicitly exempted the military service academies, clearing them to continue to use race as a selection factor. Why? We'll take you as long as you're willing to die for your country?

...Because the more non-white persons that die, the better. I assume.

More reasons for Black students to get an HBCU education :)
