A team of scientists has found why elderly people are more susceptible to COVID-19 and are working to reverse the aging process of the body’s immune system

    https://www.jpost.com/health-science/israeli-scientists-discover-how-to-reverse-cell-aging-678081

Prof. Doron Melamed and doctoral student Reem Dowery sought to understand why the elderly population is more susceptible to severe cases of COVID-19 and why the vaccines seem to be less effective and wane faster among this population.

The states with above-average COVID cases and deaths are overwhelmingly states who went for Trump in 2020:

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/09/10/inescapable-overlap-pandemic-politics/

21 of the 23 states above the nationwide average are "Red" states.

Unvaccinated people are 11 times more likely to die than vaccinated people:

It's not age that is killing people with COVID now. It's politics.

We want the vaccines to be more effective and provide better protection.
Politicizing COVID killed people, hurt economy and did a lot of damage.
In this post I try to focus on the discovery and not politics.
The subject is on the international level or transnational level and the future more effective treatments.

Highly vaccinated Israel has seen a dramatic surge in new COVID Cases.
Israel was the first country on Earth to fully vaccinate a majority of its citizens against COVID-19.
And at end of August 2021 it had one of the world's highest daily infection rates — an average of nearly 7,500 confirmed cases a day, double what it was early Aug.
Nearly one in every 150 people in Israel today has the virus.

So what happened, and what can be learned about the vaccine's impact on a highly vaccinated country?
Here are some lessons learned — and one looming question for the future of the pandemic.

    1. Israel paid a price for the early rollout. Health officials, and then Pfizer, said their data showed a dip in the vaccine's protection around six months after receiving the second shot.

    2. The vaccine's waning protection came around the same time the more infectious delta variant arrived in Israel this summer. Delta accounts for nearly all infections today. And now Mu variant is infecting people.

    3. If you get infected, being vaccinated helps.

    4. High vaccination rate isn't high enough.

    5. Vaccinations are key, but they are not enough.

    6. Booster shots appear to offer more protection — if you are one of the world's lucky few to get them.

    7. The older the person the more they are susceptible to severe cases of COVID-19 even if they are vaccinated. - The article is focusing on this group mostly but it ramifications are for all people.

And the discovery that can lead to more effective vaccinations that will help with immunity especially among elderly to provide a better protection.

Looming question: Will we need COVID-19 vaccines every several months? We don't know.
Maybe with new discovery it will be less often and more effective?

I used some info from the following article:

Yep. And now one's political beliefs make it more likely one will die of COVID. Imagine that.

When dealing with people, politics aside, you just going to have some irresponsible people.

Forged Tests, No Masks: COVID Outbreak at Ukraine Pilgrimage Threatens 'Mass Infection' in Israel

About 1,600 Israelis who returned from Uman over the weekend tested positive for COVID. Police suspect hundreds forged negative test results to enter Israel, including some who tested positive before flying back.

Here is an example of irresponsible people, no politics involved,
They are all religious and suppose to follow 10 commandments, one of them is thy shalt not murder.

This morning I visited a family friend who is dying from COVID, he is ventilated in hospital, his family all refused to get vaccinated all got sick and now are sorry.

Yes, and almost all of them come from one political party, led by people pandering to them with lies about the pandemic and the fix for it.

You can't separate this from politics because one party made it a political issue. ONE PARTY.

Lies about pandemic come in many forms and a lot of "experts" from all sides of the political spectrum.

I can go to the political forum and we can discuss politics of this over there, here I tried to focus on the research and developments etc.
I understand what you are saying, don't get me wrong.
I prefer to over protect and possibly save life then under protect and loose peoples life.

That is 3rd-rate both-sides-ism. This is as one-sided an issue as there has ever been. No one has ever politicized a pandemic before, and there is just one side doing it. Just one.

Well, unless you count how the Republicans politicized the AIDS epidemic in the '80s.

    Why politicize the COVID ?
Is it challenged constitutionally? I 'm simply trying to understand.

Covid was a liberal lie and conspiracy to shut down the economy. Still is, to a lot of people.

Interesting point. But I'm not sure it was the same. It was consistent with their hate of homosexuals, that's for sure.

I don't know. I'm not a member of the group doing it. It seems to be a campaign to keep the base riled and angry at...something.

Israeli Ministry of Health: Sept 14th 2021
Booster vaccinated are protected from death 5 times more than vaccinated in a second dose.
It appears that 36 patients who received a third booster dose died from the virus in August, compared with 269 who received two injections, and 213 who were not vaccinated at all - this is despite their small share in the population of the unvaccinated.
The risk of a person not being vaccinated at all dying from corona is 20 times greater than being vaccinated for the third time. More than 10,000 were infected yesterday, a further increase in the coefficient of infection.

It took me a while to get to this- I had a lot of writing to do for my courses and my arthritis has been killing me. I have to learn how to get comfortable using speech-to-text before my hands erode into dust.
As a fanatical bothsideist, I'm not sure which side we're talking about. Could we be talking about the side that:

    - Created and proliferated the anti-vax movement to begin with.

    - Created and proliferated the billion dollar pseudoscientific new age and alternative medicine movements, causing widespread mistrust of science-based medicine before the pandemic even began.

    - Won a presidential election, partially, by spreading fear and mistrust of how it was being handled by the former administration while proposing their own pandemic plan that was 100% exactly the same thing the former administration was doing.

    - Called to delay the rollout of vaccines until after the former administration was out of power.

    - Unevenly rolled out shut downs in such a way that hurt small business owners, who mostly vote for the other side, while benefiting certain large corporations and the entertainment industry, who mostly vote for and contribute millions of dollars to their side.

    - Widely suspended the rule of law when their side protested and rioted en masse while unvaccinated and with little to no PPE.

    - Lied by claiming that the former president is against vaccines.

    - Lied by misrepresenting certain politicians' and celebrities' stance on vaccines and experimental treatments.

-- Replaced true, skeptical, science with a monolith now known as "The Science" that can't be questioned under any circumstances, even if by qualified professionals with legitimate concerns and even though "The Science" is constantly in flux.

    - Turned tech and media outlets into The Ministry of Truth to enforce the above.

    - Tried to turn the pandemic into a race issue.

    - Tried to use the pandemic as a Trojan horse for slipping in policies they have wanted for years, and to make the country more socialist (yes, they actually used the word socialist).

    - Dismissed an important area of investigation into the origins of the virus as a baseless conspiracy theory just because the other side thought of it first, then later quietly flip flopped on the question without correcting the baseless conspiracy accusation.

    - Deified a public health official who speaks out of both sides of his mouth, has been caught lying to the public, and was found partially responsible for funding the Wuhan lab that may have been the point of origin of this virus, or at least, regularly put the public in danger of something exactly like this happening at some point, even if that's not what actually happened this time.

    - Turned masks into a political Shibboleth, even during those times when the ever-changing scientific findings didn't support them.

    - Claimed before the election that there would never be a vaccine mandate, then began pushing a vaccine mandate after the election.

    - Covered up an absolutely massive nursing home failure that lead to unnecessary infections and death.

    - Used their bully pulpit to browbeat the public into compliance while regularly getting caught out of compliance, themselves.

    - Turned vaccines into an idol of worship and wished death on anyone who didn't get one.

    - Circumvents any and all accountability by claiming that only one side has politicized the pandemic.

Or... was it the other side we were talking about? Hard to tell from where I stand.

My peeve here is the lack of accountability. So, while I'm in a post-y mood I'll go ahead and admit things that I did wrong.

    - At the start of the pandemic, I highly underestimated how serious it was and was annoyed by people who I felt were being overly cautious.

    - I didn't start wearing a mask until after they were mandated, and originally thought that masks would make the situation unnecessarily worse.

    - I sought out in-person work when I really didn't have to because I felt like we needed more money coming in than we actually did. I could have waited until more remote work was available, or I could have collected unemployment instead of putting myself and others at risk.

    - I relied too heavily on purchasing from the large corporations that were making money hand over fist and didn't actively try to find small business alternatives as they were struggling to stay afloat, and often outright failing.

    - I was way too lax with emergency preparedness before the pandemic.

    - Several times, I fell into the trap of reading one article about a topic and thinking I had it all figured out.

    - At times, I forgot that COVID statistics weren't just cold hard facts like some kind of simulation, but represented real people who have been suffering.

That's a lot of hyperbole just to evade a simple truth.
