Sad news for the music industry. While no Sam Cook or Marvin Gaye, he will be missed as a giant in the field.
I'll say one thing for him, he did the best version of "America The Beautiful" that I ever heard. Jack
I guess he and Regan will be keeping company. Didn't he sing for him or something and one of these "whitehouse at Christmas" specials?????????
I loved the story he told, on Leno or Letterman, that he had taken up golf, and was issuing a challenge to Tiger Woods for a no-handicap match game for a million bucks, as long as he could name the time and place. Woods was goaded into accepting, and Charles said, "Old Saint Andrews. Next Tuesday. Midnight."
I agree he did it better than anyone else except Elvis. A recently discovered recording of him singing the song is absolutely haunting!
Bruce: Uh-oh.....the old legend about how celebrities die in groups of three..... John: I guess the last widow of a Confederate soldier doesn't count, huh? According to Time, Alberta Martin married an 81-year-old veteran when she was 20. When he died 4 years later, she married his grandson. She died this week at 97.
Ray Charles R.I.P. Ray Charles This is a tragic loss for all of us. A truly inspirational man who overcame many obstacles in his life and always had a smile. Thanks for bringing some sunshine into our lives.
