    La donna e mobile...

    Calm down, Little Fauss.

Here's what I said about you as a person:

"...the topic stretches your usual civility and there's no point in wrangling. I have seen extraordinary integrity from you elsewhere and I do not characterize you by this one issue."

    Read the above.

Usual civility...extraordinary integrity...I do not characterize you by this.

Yup, that's really taking a terrible view of you.

There are people who do take a terrible view of you. But not me.
And they are not on degreeinfo.

I am also sending you a private message unrelated to the topic of this thread which I hope you will read.

I stand corrected and appropriately chastened. Sorry! :)
I confess to having only scanned briefly your response and seen the few "offending" words and shot off a response myself. I was wrong.

And also, please tell me, who are these people? It's kind of exciting to be hated. Are they that gang of fine upstanding folks over on www.militaryforums.com or is there another gang elsewhere? You've really piqued my curiosity. Oh, and by the way, you're hated--and I mean hated!--by certain rather, to put it as kindly as possible, eccentric individuals in cyberspace. But of course, I'm sure you wear it as a badge of honor!

You may have me there, Gregg. I confess to not having read one letter of the article in question. But of course, being a card-carrying moral majoritarian (not really) entitles me to pronounce a final and binding judgment without having investigated the matter myself. ;)

    little fauss,

I will defend to the death your right to agree with that stinking heap of pedantic "original intent" nonsense, Mr. Justice Scalia! :D

    But I wish you'd read Dworkin's "Law's Empire".

I'll read Dworkin. Won't my wife just love me for diving into another thick book in addition to the ubiquitous MBA studies? I just recently finished "Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" and Bob Zmuda's bio of Andy Kaufmann (one of my favorite Jewish entertainers ever, even though he made me cringe with his hedonism), and now here comes Dworkin.

But even after reading Dworkin, I'll bet you I'm still an original intenter along the lines of Bork. But we'll see.

By the way, I have a theory that I think explains your beliefs against original intent, and it has to do with the concept of self-governance and the theory--which I think true--that rulers only rule, ultimately, by the consent and acquiecence of the governed. I'll expand on it later, and you can tell me if I'm understanding you at all or barking up the wrong tree.

By the way, folks, my apologies. Believe it or not, I didn't know about the PM feature and wasn't checking mine. I'd heard it referred to, but didn't know what it was. Now I know.

I have not been ignoring all of you who've sent me PMs--at least not intentionally.

Well, Fauss, I think you and I are on proper ground now. That's good.

As for your question about those other individuals, well, this thread has been so productive that I would hate to see it messed up with discussion of the persons about whom you enquire. Better yet, direct your question to Bruce the moderator. The mods advised us a while back not to rehash stuff from other fora--especially considering what it almost invariably amounts to.

The good thing that I enjoy offline is total solidarity with my brothers and fathers in my field of work, who are wise to the ways of the world and utterly undeluded by them. Men of honour stand by one another. This is a great mercy given us by God. One sees this also in a secular field right here on degreeinfo.

Now, back to topic, and best wishes to you, to Nosborne, DesElms, Dayson, and all the other persons of dignity who have been posting on this thread.
