To anyone on here who has taken the California Baby Bar/FYSLE - Do you know if the essay portion (if you are using your laptop) happens via a secured connection wherein you type the essays into the fields of the site OR proprietary software that installed on to your laptop at the time of the exam OR by using your own word processor and uploading the essay to a secured site? I'm asking because I've practicing via Word on my laptop and if it wasn't going to available to use at the exam itself, that would be nice to know. Thanks.
FWIW when I took it back in 2006 all essays were on your laptop word processor and then you had a four hour time period after the exam to upload to a secure site.
All of the rules are covered in detail at the Calbar website. You have to use proprietary software, but it is similar to Microsoft Word.
Ah yes. They've changed a little since I took it. I forget the name of the software/program that I had to download onto my desktop on my laptop. But I'm sure it wasn't SofTest. When we started the essay portion of the test we opened it up and used it just like you would Word. But it seems at that time if we did not upload it within a certain amount of hours after the test, you would not get credit for the essays. Essentially you were screwed. Now they give you up to two weeks to upload with a 10 point deduction per essay. Interesting. Oh well--thanks for the great memories!
