I e-mailed Dr. Michael Esselen, the Canadian
rep for UNISA and he replied within 2 working days. It was very helpful and friendly. I will post his response. (I hope you are not offened Dr. Esselen-if you read this!) But his quick response and helpfulness shows that if you want to go to UNISA, Dr. Esselsen is the one to go thru, not Crapola--or whatever his name is.

    Dear James,
Attached information you have requested, please feel free to ask us
    questions.

The first step in the registration process with UNISA is for the University
to determine whether you are academically acceptable on grounds of your
qualifications and academic performance in your other qualifications.

All you need to do is: Download the "Postgraduate Form" out of our website.
Go to "Registration" page, click on "Postgraduate Form", download and print
the forms. Answer all the questions and fax us a copy for the first review.
We will review your application and let you know the next step (such as:
When to send your full academic records, Thesis, I.D. certificate etc').

I hope that you will choose to study at UNISA and that we can accommodate
you. Try to get on to our website and see what we have to offer.

    Best Regards,
    Dr. Michael Esselen

That seems to be the general report about the Canadian UNISA agent. At least they have the customer service thing down.

    Good luck!

Hey, jimwe! Thanks for sharing this helpful post. I've decided to follow suit by contacting these folks in Canada. I only live 80 miles from the border, so I'm almost Canadian, anyhow--eh?

We'll see what the outcome will be for me.

    Thanks again.

Well, I received a response within just a few hours. The response I received was identical, word-for-word, to the one "jimwe" has shared above. Unfortuately, this response did not answer the specific question I had submitted. Yet, I am encouraged by the speedy response, one which clearly has been designed to communicate a spirit of helpfulness and encouragement to prospective students. Clearly, this response from the folks in Canada provides students a point from which to begin the process. The assistance I have been shown is perhaps enough to convince me to pursue the process further. We'll see...

In response to the email I received from Dr. Esselen, I submitted a follow-up question last evening. A very clear, helpful, and friendly response awaited me this morning as I came to check my email.

I must admit that my perception of UNISA as impersonal and inpenetrable is beginning to melt. Encouraging. Three cheers for Dr. Esselen!
