The first high school kid to break 10 seconds in the 100 meters. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/matthew-boling-100m-teen-nicknamed-white-lightning-runs-100-meter-dash-in-9-98-seconds/
The best-known alumnus of my high school was Mel Patton, who set the world record for the 100-yard dash (9.3 sec.), I believe while still in high school. (There was also the gym teacher, Mr. Turner, who held the world record in the long jump . . . for 12 minutes; someone broke it in the same meet.)
I remember "Fleet Foot" Foerster, who, as I recall, actually broke the ten foot barrier in the long jump.
Nick Gray just broke the 100 meter record at Ohio State. It was set 80 years ago by Jesse Owens. https://fox8.com/2019/05/02/ohio-state-university-sprinter-breaks-jesse-owens-school-record/
