I have a PhD in Human Services and need a Post Doctoral Certificate in Clinical Psychology. Doesn't have to be accredited but the university must have a campus. Needs to be inexpensive and fast. Thanks.

Is your intent to obtain licensure in applied psychology? If so, your first Ph.D. doesn't qualify for respecialization in psychology. To take advantage of what is commonly referred to as a 'retread' one's Ph.D. must be in psychology per se. Experimental psych, biopsych, ed psych, whatever but it must be in psychology.

    Hi David,
My intent is to be able to bill insurance companies in Alabama. They have this little annoying rule that you must have a PhD in clinical psychology; however, it doesn't have to be accredited. Even with a Clinical Psy Degree you would have to have a license and I have the Professional Counselor's License. Any help will be appreciated. Howard.

    Hi Howard,
I hate to be the bearer of grim tidings but I think the reality is that nothing short of taking a second Ph.D. will meet your needs. I wound up in a similar situation in the early 1980s and that was what I wound up doing. Fortunately, the university transferred in a great deal of my coursework so I only had to spend one year on campus which met the residency requirement. Of course, I had to do a second disser and an internship. One might groan on reading what I endured but it was the best decision I ever made. I went from limping back to social work (my masters is an MSW) just to find employment to going through the front door into psychology with an APA approved degree and internship. I work in a teaching hospital and I am a supervisor in an APA approved pre-doctoral internship program. It really doesn't get much better than this.
