And another conclave. It's funny but true. Catholic or non-Catholic, Christian or non-Christian, the Pope matters. Maybthe Cardinals choose wisely.
I think Mr. Trump will appoint himself because, well, why not. His followers celebrate him like he is God's representative anyway, so it's the logical next career step for him!
Yes and popes seem to be about his age when appointed. So that would be a plus. However being a convicted criminal might weigh against him?
“His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and His church.” Pope Francis, an energetic reformer who inspired widespread devotion from Catholics but riled traditionalists, died on Monday, aged 88, a day after making a much-hoped-for appearance at Saint Peter’s Square on Easter Sunday, the Vatican said in a statement. Some Christian traditions, particularly in dispensationalism, suggest that there will be a future, divine restoration of Jerusalem, which may include the rebuilding of the Temple and other significant eschatological events.
No, it actually will help him. For two reasons. Either he can play the reformed sinner card, or he could tell he is in good company with this record (with Pope Alexander VI Borgia for example)...
Trump does seem to have a lot in common with that pope doesn't he? They probably want a pope that has read the bible at least once. Trump better start reading quick.
Not to be crude, but Roman Catholic bishops (including the Bishop of Rome) ought to be be celibate (not that many have not fallen short of the standard!)
Because nothing bad has ever happened as a result of the medieval-era Roman Catholic requirement that its clergy be celibate!
In many ways, Pope Francis continued the work of popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI in building ties with Jewish and Muslim leaders and addressing antisemitism and Islamophobia in the church. In Argentine, community leaders say that there’s never been a pope who has had as much engagement with the Jewish, Muslim and other communities before he became pope. While Francis was still Bergoglio, he established a close friendship with local Buenos Aires leaders. He opened the cathedral in Buenos Aires to Holocaust commemorations, and visited synagogues on Jewish holidays. Rabbi David Rosen, former American Jewish Committee international director of interreligious affairs: “This was a man who had a living knowledge of the Jewish community,” said Rosen. “You could say maybe the most knowledge any Pope had since Peter.” As pope, he also took important steps to move forward Jewish-Catholic dialogue.
