So, I spoke with the Navy Education folks yesterday from the Navy COOL office and will be pursuing getting my PHR certification in the near future. What I want to know is does anyone have... 1. Experience with this test? 2. Suggestions for study guides for this test? 3. Any insight on how hard this certification is? 4. What you wish you knew prior to testing? Thanks.
Not sure if bumping one's thread is legal here lol but I figured I would try it once to see if I get any insight now that the during the week traffic is here
Sure he did, you didn't respond the first time. Now he has your attention. I'll bump it back up for him since I don't have any knowledge about the exam either.
1. Took the SPHR a long time ago. Missed it by 1 or 2 questions. I would have most likely passed if I opted for PHR instead. 2. Best guide hands-down were the guides from HRCP . I only wish I read the whole thing before I went into the test. 3. Pass rates are on the SHRM website somewhere. PHR isn't as bad as SPHR. 4. Laws relating to unions. That's the part the got me (and the part I didn't get to in the study guides.) But that was the SPHR, the PHR is more generalist. Good luck!
I have been a loooong time lurker but joined today just to reply to your post. I was looking all over for any HR related forums as well. I am currently studying for the PHR and it has been one of the hardest things I have ever done. My test is on June 13th and I have been searching all over for different (current) resources. I am currently using the following: The HRCP system (2009) edition The New Anne Bogardus book that everyone recommends The 2012 SHRM learning system (on Kindle) The 2012 PHR-SPHR Study Guide by David Siler (Audio)-I listen to it in the car 2. At least five EXTREMELY experienced people with degrees at my company have taken it and only one passed. I saw today (on twitter) that only 58% of people passed their tests in the December-April window. 3. I haven't taken it yet but I wish I started studying earlier. I am extremely nervous about this. I have been looking for forums with current testing information. The only one I found so far is XXXXXXX (SurfDoctor)
