Wow. Impeached Texas AG Paxton filed several motions in the Texas Senate to dismiss all or parts of the articles of impeachment against him. Not only did the Senate deny every motion they did so with supermajorities larger than necessary for eventual conviction. There is a substantial possibility that Paxton will be removed from office for corruption and banned from ever holding political office in Texas again.
Well, the Texas GOP just demonstrated that they're just as incompetent and corrupt as we thought. Paxton was acquitted on all 16 counts in the Texas Senate. Impeachment is a political act and not a legal one.
Impeachment is a political process, not an actual determination of guilt, or even whether someone did or did not do something. Ken Paxton has done what he has done. And Texas Republicans have decided it is acceptable to them. That's not an assessment. It's an inference from the facts present.
There is punishment in the process, even if the person is not impeached the process is damaging and can be abused. Same for a person who is being arrested then found not guilty, they have to deal with jail, weeks or months of process, legal fees etc.
