With all the distance programs being offered is there a number of part time teaching positions available via - DL. How would one apply for such a position? Oh and how much does it hurt that I am a Canadian. Thanks as always and I hope I'm not posting too much.
Assuming one is properly qualified (educationally and professionally), there are at least three distinct ways to go. First, you could write unsolicited letters to the school(s) for whom you wish to teach/mentor/facilitate/whatever. But don't expect much. Second, you can take a look at employment opportunities at each school you're interested in, applying for the ones that seem interesting and promising. Again, don't expect too much. Third, you can be nominated as a student's mentor. Say there is a student you know who is attending a DL school. That person nominates you as his/her faculty mentor. This is likely to be successful, if you, the school, the student, the course of study, and your qualifications are a good fit. Being Canadian shouldn't be an issue. The issues are your qualifications, skills, motivations, etc. Rich Douglas

I've got links to several online sources for job postings at http://distancelearn.about.com/cs/employment/ If you're looking for jobs in academia, try the Chronicle of Higher Education -- http://jobs.chronicle.com/free/jobs/dl/links_dl.html One recent listing was from Troy State University, which has adjunct faculty openings in its online graduate programs -- see http://spectrum.troyst.edu/~distance/Employment.html Another possibility that would turn up more corporate jobs is http://www.hotjobs.com/ ------------------ Kristin Evenson Hirst DistanceLearn.About.com
