    Hello!

Not sure which major you should take? In this case, the Open Degree from the Open University (UK) can be warmly recommended. If you have - like me - the deep desire to get a bachelor degree just for the sake of getting a bachelor degree and do not intend to specialize anyway, this can be the right thing for you.

You can freely chose any subject to study, you can change them while studying, you can combine basic statistics with literature and art history - virtually everything is possible. And after getting 360 UK credits, you get - depending on the subjects you chose - either a BSc or a BA (Open). In USA, this will cost unter GBP 20.000.

I stopped studying after getting an Open DipHE, eq. to an associate degree, as an exit qualification since my day job only let me this choice (the other option was getting sent to the booby-hatch due to too much stress). But it was one of the most pleasant studying experience I ever had; and I can warmly recommend it.

    Best regards,

Assuming a US-based student, and even outside of what this forum seems to call the "Big 3", I think there are plenty of Bachelors of General Studies, BA in Interdisciplinary Studies, or (specific to WVU and Marshall) the Regents' Bachelor of Arts out there that would allow the same flexibility for a lot cheaper than 20k pounds.

Good to keep those options open. I was a born again student. I made it through Community College in my 40s, at night while I was working. My program was "General Arts and Sciences" and I have everything from Biochemistry to Abnormal Psych to Spanish and Chinese on my transcript. I did, however, have some kind of a concentration. I think I took every Psych and most Sociology courses that were offered in extension.

After I retired (50) I went to University - again, at night. My strangest same-semester combo - Accounting and advanced Poetry-writing. Weirdness worked - they were two of my best marks. I perceived - rightly or wrongly - that poetry and accounting required much the same ability to organize things in your head.

I sometimes wonder if the late Allen Ginsberg would have agreed. He worked in the business world for some time.

    No doubt, yes.

Still, compared with the normal tuition of an average US college, it's not that bad, considering - as far as I know - Open Uni (UK) is considered as equivalent to RA.

if you have an AA/AS, HND, with some years of work experience, wouldn't going for 1 of those top-up degrees from the lower tier UK Unis be a cheaper option? There's quite afew now offering online top-up degrees in various fields.

idk, Open Uni (UK) comes off as really expensive. UoL's programs are cheaper if u want a brand name (their older traditional DL programs. The new online ones are actually pretty expensive too)

    Hello!

Well, I enrolled in 2009. I must admit that yes, they were way cheaper then (approx. GBP 10.000 - 12.000 for the Open Degree). However, even if I compare the prices now with other universities, I think it might still be worth it.

... and fit them into a formal structure. Formal structure is essential in Accounting - and that particular poetry course was big on formal structure. The professor wrote - she identified herself as a New Formalist. She knew structure and how to teach it. So did the Accounting prof.
