The Colorado School of Mines offers Bachelor, Master and Ph.D in Space Resources on-campus or online. It is an interesting degree major that I have ever seen. I am wondering this degree offering is the result of President Trump's Space Force establishment and all the space investment from Elon Musk, Richard Branson, and Jeff Bezo. Well, the Space Force is just some of the Air Force's operations split off into a redundant command structure, done at taxpayer expense to make Trump look decisive, so I doubt that was specifically a factor. But that doesn't mean LEO isn't increasingly important militarily, so it's probably not a coincidence that CSM is only like an hour's drive from the US Air Force Academy. And the increase in commercial investment in space doesn't hurt either.
Hey! I think I'm the only retired Air Force member posting regularly on this board, and I have something to say about this subject: I think you're right. It's laughably stupid. The proximity to the Air Force Academy is coincidental, I suspect. More likely, it is its proximity to Space Command, also located in Colorado Springs. NORAD, too.
