    In my opinion this reinstatement is likely not because of ignorance toward the invalidity of the Almeda degree, or lack of recognition of the level of dishonesty involved.

    I have read too many cases in which officers have gotten off lightly after violations that would get a civilian fired for them to be coincidence.

    I think it is fair to suggest that police "protect their own" more than possibly any other profession. To get dismissed quite a serious offense is required, typically one which would cause the community to demand it.
