OACFP = Ontario Association of Cemetery and Funeral Professionals

"OACFP brings you our newest resource, a 10-week, virtual-first program with content based on an MBA curriculum, in the OACFP Master of Bereavement Business Administration (M.B.B.A.)"

Someone in my network earned this credential and listed it under certifications (the correct way to do it IMO) but I could easily see someone listing it under Education and being misleading.

    10 weeks and about $1500.

Or using the postnominal initials alone, or pushing it in narrative text ("completed a master's…")

This is borderline awful. The M.B. part looks like a UK Medical degree - Medicinae Baccalaureus. (Bach. of Medicine).
It's way too late for medicine when the Funeral team arrives!.This is a pretty closed shop, so I hear - all they're going to do is impress each other. They probably think it might enable them to charge a little more. I doubt it.

As long as they don't call it a degree, they might get away with it. Their lawyers have probably told them that. These people should value their dignity more - it's mandatory in their business. They've just sacrificed it, here. For precisely what gain, I'm not sure. They may turn out to be their own victims. I'm kind of hoping so.

As a certain degree-maven who used to post here might have said: "It's a scam, a sham and thank you, Ma'am."

In fact - It's more like the standard UK Medical degree than I realized at first. This thing is MBBA. UK Doctors earn an MBBS. (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery). One letter different, a world apart. One is a degree in an honoured profession. The other is not even a degree -- and no one had better claim it is.

Years ago there was a comic strip called "Tumbleweeds". One of the characters was Claude Clay, the undertaker. His business motto was "You plug 'em; I plant 'em."

Claude's motto was meant to be funny -- and OK, it is somewhat, even if it's not exactly hilarious.
This "degree" charade is not funny at all.
    "Git th' rope, Clem..."
