Nova Southeastern University's Fischler School of Education has received accreditation from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The story is here: This accreditation is important because it was the School of Education that pioneered Nova's distance education. Several years ago, teachers' unions in many states (including New Jersey) fought very tooth and nail to discourage their education departments from recognizing education degrees that were awarded by Nova. Today, the story is no long the same. It appears that more people are beginning to accept distance education degrees, albeit at a slow pace. Nova Southeastern University NSU actually signed a teacher training contract a few years ago with the State of New Jersey and this was spearheaded and supported by the teacher's union in the state. I believe that the school of business is currently seeking AACSB accreditation. It also appears that the School of Computer and Information Sciences (SCIS) is seeking ABET-CSAB accreditation. There is no question that programmatic accreditation enhances the image of a program, especially among the people in the groves of the academe. I forgot to add that Capella University (an online school) has both NCATE and ABET accreditations.
Oddly, Nova has still not updated their accreditations page to indicate NCATE accreditation, however the NCATE website clearly indicares that they are accredited.
