Nigerians will never take any education warning for granted, I am one and I know this for a fact; since your best bet of being successful and even getting a chance to gainful employment, which is really so difficult now if your family has no connection in those high echelon, cos right now it's more of, scratch my back, and I'll scratch yours.

In the past, it was more merit based, your graduate class, your AOS and employee based recruitment testing. Right now the economy is so shitty and one of the richest my ass, if the economy's riches are just sitting in the pockets of ex-leaders, governors, politicians, ministers and others executives.

Lastest I heard was one of the worlds global leader in pertroleum mining and products announved it's moving out of the country, Late energy (power) bill my parents got was over 10 grand equivalent to $28, yes you might say cheap but it's not, if a salary earner averages 35000 to 60000, that's $85 to $176. Dollar is tripple was is used to be, an going as high as 500 naira to a dollar, international organizations are moving out, leading to employment reduction, gasoline is double what it use to be when I was there, this is one of the largest crude producing countries in the world, why, becajse individuals, corrupt leaders now has refining licences, all they do is load this product up, take it out of the country in oil vessel, to south america, strike a deal with a refinery to process the product and return with 45%, since they had to pay the cost with part of the product itself, and then sell that 45% tripple to amount to the citizens, in other to recoup the capital investments and make profits.

All this educational institution offering online or dual programs are for profit in the country, more than two-thirds of the countries youth and parents know that, and never even act like they exist. The last individual I heard that got a doctorate degree was the former president obasanjo, that dumbskull, where does he find time to read, when all they do are god-fatherism of the nations politicis, sit dow in a room and discuss who gets what position and when. Does he even has a real academic bachelors degree and not honorary, shit I could go on, but does educational instituition exists for a reason, fyi obasanjo owns part of the school, internet connection is not up to par as the rest of the world, no constant power supply and to make all this constant a d the education at such school affordable are all but lies, if it's not political geared/powered, it never florishes or succeed in that country.

Parents working or retired have to pay school fees every semester or the students sit and watch while the rest of the class moves ahead, there's no government loans or funding, go check the countries budget for the last 20 years, allocation has been reducing drastically, hence the increase in sch fees at federal and state education instituition so as to meet up with bills, and that's why there's always a strike year in, year out. So its a good thing that people were warned above the above college, and all this non-federal and non-state academic instuitions are frowned open, they are just diploma mills, even the church owned instituitions, cos if your parents pay a fortune for your to attend such schools, who's gonna have the balls to fall you or actually give the class of degree you worked for and not take it above that in other for you to go out ther and be a walking advert for the school without you knowing.

Only thing I am certain of, is the people are brilliant and would excel in instituitions with better educational environment and infrastructure, cos the conditions in which you study there is not welcomed at all, I know one some might have, but who has read all night with candlelight so close to your face. Anyway, it was good sharing and reading but not all scams come from Nigeria, this is a very vulnerable country, systems checks and security are non-existence and its doors are open to anybody, so anyone can come in do what it takes and get out, ever heard of the vaswani brothers, this indians killed the country, there are small asian factories there, very meager wage like the old chinatown and this individuals have mega millions because its so easy to evade tax, all you need is too find the corrupt government officials and you are good, they take the tax from you, one-tenth of its original amount and you're untouchable by even the real government tax office. The vaswani did the same with past vice president and the moment he was out office, they were banned from entering the country, but the crazy part is their numerous business organizations were not shut down or confiscated, cos now they have got to pay the government everytime money has to go back and forth, from india to nigeria and vice-versa, this so called government generated income never gets to the public or into the economy, it goes into personal accounts, just like the $120 plus billion that was returned by swiss bank to the country as part of funds stolen by ex-leaders and the $100 million debt relief from the UN, a minister of finance, former world bank managing director was downsized to a minister of foreign affairs cos she disagreed with what the people were the funds would be used for and uncovered it was been disbursed into personal stuffs by leaders, but then she could get out she was in too deep cos she had been the only individuals in the history of the country who has told the citizens she wants to be paid in dollars and that's what all her banks account holds. A common councilman makes more than the president of united states at the expense of the common individuals who suffer the lack of bsic amenities.

Sorry for any typos guys, mobile user.

So where might a Nigerian go for a legitimate online degree? Which schools are acceptable by the government and by employers?

This article is wrong about Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in a number of important ways. For example, it lists OneCoin, even though that's not a cryptocurrency, it's just an international scam. For another, not only are transactions not "untraceable", but every single transaction made using these systems is on a publicly viewable ledger.

I am Nigerian and need to straighten some things. A lot of private employers employ people with online degrees as they understand that brick and mortar doesn't necessarily mean you are smarter.
Sadly, a lot of people in offices in places like the NUC don't even understand that an online degree can be as rich as any degree.
Government colleges have lost their glory as there has been a lot of negligence by the governments(past and present). Curriculums are outdated too. Nigeria used to have very good public universities.
The more expensive private universities have more students these days because they mostly have better facilities (a lot of people living in denial don't accept this tho).
As for online degrees, more and more people are enrolling for them in Nigeria and also getting jobs too. There's a lot of enlightenment and awareness at the moment, thanks to the internet, cable tv the world just became smaller and information travels faster.

Thanks for this. If you have any information regarding specific online programs or schools that are of good quality/reliable, etc. then we'd appreciate hearing more about it.

In the past the universities has satellite campuses across the country. The guys at the National Universities Commission are still backward and can't comprehend q lot about using technology for education.
At least this is some progress.
