Hold off on withdrawing; it is merely a web poll. From a report in The Daily Republic. ..His college is the readers’ choice for closure in a Rapid City Journal online poll that asks readers which of the state’s six universities they would close, if closure ever is pursued by the state Legislature. About 56 percent of those responding picked DSU, located in Madison, as their choice for elimination... We have a few posters here enrolled in the DSc. program via DSU. I'm considering it myself.
Interesting article but I just can't see them closing DSU. From the article: "The college is considered one of the best technology schools in the nation, [state Senator Ed Olson] believes." DSU has quite a bit going for it along with supporters in high places. I'll believe it when I see them close the university, but I will keep an eye out for anything related to this.
that would be my luck...1.5 years of searching for a good doctoral program and it s the one everyone thinks should close I'll have to keep my eyes open on this topic.
If the school was to be closed, I would suspect that they would "teach out" their doctoral students. If not, those students would be picked up by another school in the system--or some other school by agreement. I doubt seriously that students would be abandoned.
Several of the SD blogs, written by SD state political insiders, speculate that in the unlikely event that DSU is actually closed, their programs will be moved to one of the other public universities. The internal state politics involved gives me yet another reason to be happy that I don't live in South Dakota. South Dakota War College blog
Thanks for the blog Tom. I found these entries to be interesting. This is evident every time I receive an email from billing or concerning enrollment: Each of South Dakota's six universities are listed in the emails. These are a couple interesting alternatives to closing one of the state's universities.
