I wondered that, too. On the other hand, why should they bother? I mean, hey, I intend to get a Nobel prize for some snarky SCM columns on XING I wrote and the Nobel committee is not aware of this either!!

It's a device we've seen fairly frequently among new unaccredited schools. They know everyone with any knowledge prefers accredited schools - and they have none. So, they soothe the troubled waters with talk of applying for legit accreditation - and either name an agency they "intend" to apply to, or claim to be on "double-secret probation" with an accreditor whose name they can't reveal, till they get candidate status or something.

    Old story - blowin' smoke.

PS - Mac, it's an old movie thing. You might not have seen this in Germany, I have no idea. If you're unfamiliar with its origin, you might like to Google "double-secret probation" in quotes.

urbandictionary does, usually, do a great job in explaining these things, as they do here: https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Double%20Secret%20Probation

I imagine someone connected with the "real" New York University (NYU) might have demanded they make a change. Very awkward-sounding.
WHOIS: All info "redacted" - behind a privacy screen. Never a good sign with a school.
