Is the other one "assassinating a fellow police officer"?

I don't mean lay that all on New Orleans since we've had some in my home county (Dekalb)...

As someone else mentioned, this is a perfect opportunity to give the NOPD a long-needed enema. I wouldn't mind seeing the Feds take control of the NOPD for the immediate future, and install someone like Bernard Kerik as temporary commissioner (marital infidelities aside, the man knows how to run a police department).

Former Chief Eddie Compass was entertaining on TV, and while his men seemed to like him on a personal level, he clearly was not the man for the job. I've been corresponding with a former NOPD Officer, who says that Compass has played footloose & fancy-free ever since he was a district commander, when he fudged his COMPSTAT figures to make himself look good. I also heard that many of the officers who "abandoned" their posts actually existed only on paper, in order to bring more money into the PD's budget.

It will probably be a couple of years before the whole truth is known, but I predict it won't be pretty.

    DTechBA,
You are right. I read into too much. That's why I would guess the percentage of good officers to be very small. I don't know of any departments hiring former NOPD. So, I suppose the few decent troops have to suffer for the acts of the scum. And the citizens suffer the most.

Federal investigations are anything but objective. In the early seventies Newark was totally corrupt. But due to politics, and the fact that the bad guys were privy to strategies, they adjusted their tactics to essentially stop any progress and shut-down the inquiry. The investigation involved several political murders. Poof! All gone. Fortunately, there is no statute of limitations on murder. Maybe, someone will open the dead-end files and solve these crimes. Most of the players are either dead or too old to interfere.

I believe the same will occur with NOPD. Or, they will open a can of worms requiring years to close. One "talker" can supply more information than an entire unit can properly follow-up. That's where STFU applies. You prioritize and work on the most serious, with an extremely high chance of conviction, down to a point where the costs exceed your budget and conviction is a toss-up. Someone always draws the short straw, in the real world.

If I could, I would send all the crooked politicians, cops, anyone guilty of violating the public trust, to a restored Devil's Island. I have never met an habitual criminal who reformed. I am not PC and have seen more destruction, pain, than most citizens. My dark humor causes me to chuckle when a devout PC'er, and/or pacifist is a victim. They can become executioners within moments.

Several posters will deny they would change their views, but when your family suffers at the hands of another, MAMA BEAR emerges and civility evaporates. This may account for some of the looting, in New O, for survival. But expensive electronics, jewelry etc...don't pass muster. And crimes against persons, do to the unavailability of (alleged LE), should be met with deadly force. Not "like" force. Realistically, most folks cannot fight and would escalate the situation.

When you or your family are threatened with physical harm, and you have the means, send the scum straight to hell. The last thing on my mind would be possible legal action. Taking a life, is the worst thing we humans can do, but failing to do so, when capable and protecting kin (and/or others) would make us morally, possibly civilly, probably not criminally (unless LE), but certainly psychologically guilty of their loss.

Let's pretend the guilty get what they deserve, even if we allow ourselves to completely overlook logic, and feel good for a few seconds. And NO will never see me, or my money, again. My son and I lost some property in Miss. and sent a semi full of water, camping gear, MREs, clothes, TP, various kinds of balls, Aid-kits etc...and the people were very civil and courteous. The local and state LE were very professional and helpful. I would never think of sending squat to NO. I'd never wish ill on anyone in the US, but I do focus my little assistance on things I consider worthy. My toys , my game. Sorry for their loss.

    Bruce,
Bernie is a politician, liar, and self-serving embarrassment. Why give him free rein in a brothel. (Please allow for my equivoque) Given, he has done much, but the underlings usually perform the things for which he gets credit. You know how your Department works. If similar to others, the honcho has his cadre, which he relies upon to take care of business, and follows cues.

Allowing him to become overseer of a cesspool would not solve the problem, and may exacerbate the situation. If you can wait a week, I'll supply some names you may approve of without concern for unprofessionalism. Hell, did he think he was impervious to investigation. That's chutzpa to the Nth degree.

I realize this is all for fun, so lets consider due diligence and we can ask other active and retired to vote on the choices we provide.:)

How much longer to retirement? Interested in a teaching job over-seas?
    Best,
    Clay
