Just wanted to let the board know that as of today I just completed the University of Western Sydney's Master of Astronomy program. My application to graduate was submitted and I am not sure when the diploma will be awarded. Official commencement isn't until April. Still not quite used to the Aussie gading system. The two highest grades at UWS are H & D. H is for High Distinction and D is for Distinction. My final research project is an H. I did get a couple of D's and needed to explain to my kids who saw a grade report lying on my desk that this D was a good grade. Anyway, enjoyed the program. For those wondering about the UWS astronomy doctoral program. It is still discussed and although the department and students are enthusiastic the administration seems relatively silent on the whole matter. There has been a lot of restucturing going on at UWS and the doctoral program does not appear to be a priority at this time. John, MAstron (The offical degree abbrev. as found on the UWS web site)
Congratulations John! That makes, what, 5 degrees for you now? Pretty soon you'll be challenging Dennis Huber for most wallpaper earned. Any plans to go on for the Doctor of Astronomy, should it be offered? Bruce [Note: This message has been edited by Bruce]
Great!! (And your message reminded me to go outside in the wee hours to see the comet show that is supposed to peak tonight.)
There must be a Guiness World Record out there somewhere. Maybe Dennis has it?! I don't think I'll catch up with Dennis as I am not even halfway there. The astronomy doctorate may be the only additional doctorate I am interest in pursuing. If the program at UWS should take off I will give it serious consideration. John
Congrats John!!! When can we expect you to show up as the new captian of some new Star Trek series? Well done! Barry Foster
Congrats. Maybe you can get your picture in another Excelsior mag. in Star Trek attire instead of the Academic garb.
Yes, congradulations on the completion of your most recent degree! I once had a professor who was addicted to learning and he had around 20 different degrees (I'm not kidding).
Well, if I wore a ST uniform at the next Excelsior commencement I could really go where no academic has gone before. Maybe for my next career I can be a tour guide at a planetarium if the ST executives don't call. John
Congratulations, John. Another personal goal has been achieved, and you are to be commended. By chance, did you see any Romulan vessels while gazing the heavens? Russell
Let me take this opportunity to say congrats or I might have to wait another 100 years to do so. Steven King
Never checked the Guiness Book of Records for this one - don't even know if this guy bothered putting it in there. Think that Archaology or a similar field is his speciality, he lectures at Oxford (Chirst's College) and know that he has spent over 30 years of study / research. Professor Sir Christopher Quinn MBE I think his name is. I know he has no less than 14 degrees at the various levels, research papers, books etc. Think that there are four Doctorates in there. Remember seeing something about him when i was in Oxford (Brookes). Not 100% sure, but any information I find I will post OK. Congrats anyway on the Astronomy, that's quite an achievement along with the other stuff.
