I'm presently taking one class at a time. I've just been re-admitted to the MA program in Civil War Studies at American Military University (had previously been in their program 2001 to 2003). CW 522: Reconstruction & Post-Civil War America starts on June 5th. I will be reading: Eric Foner, _Reconstruction: America's Unfinished Revolution_; John Hope Franklin, _Reconstruction After the Civil War_; Gary W. Gllagher & Alan T. Nolan, _The Myth of the Lost Cause and Civil War History_; Michael Golay, _A Ruined Land: The End of the Civil War_; and Jim McPherson, _Abraham Lincoln and the Second American Revolution_. For my term paper, which I propose to write on Reconstruction in Florida, I will be reading: Canter Brown, Jr., _Ossian Bingley Hart: Florida's Loyalist Reconstruction Governor_; William Watson Davis, _The Civil War and Reconstruction in Florida_; Peter D. Klingman, _Josiah Walls: Florida's Black Congressman of Reconstruction_; Joe M. Richardson, _The Negro in the Reconstruction of Florida_; Jerrell H. Shofner, _Nor Is It Over Yet: Florida in the Era of Reconstruction; and John Wallace, _Carpetbag Rule in Florida: The Inside Workings of the Reconstruction of Civil Government in Florida After the Close of the Civil War_.

New classes start each month at AMU, so if I'm doing okay with my first class on my second go-round here, I might register for CW 521: Civil War Society & Culture in July and CW 524: Civil War Cavalry in August.

Oh you are going to like the Foner book. It was like being on a rollercoaster ride. The McPherson book is a little different. It will make you rethink your attitudes on Lincoln( Especially when he compares Lincoln to a hedgehog. The Franklin book is very good. Another book to read on Reconstruction is The Strange Career of Jim Crow by C.Van Woodward. Some of it has been disproved as of this day, but he hit the mark on many things. I havent read that Gallagher book , but I have read The Confederate War by him. It was good. I thought it to be sophomoric, but he defended his points. I dont know if you have to do this, but in my Readings in the Civil War (History 6393), we had to find the model of the book. Essentially, what is the generic theme the author is trying to convey. Some were easy( Potter), some not so easy. Your class sounds great. I do wish you luck. Florida Reconstruction sounds quite interesting. We didnt go into much detail on each state's reconstruction. Keep me posted.

LOL Ok why did you bump this thread? :D There's no controversy, drama, fighting, calling anyone out, discovering a mill/schill/liar, nothing. LOL

Late last night, there was a newbie who appeared to ask if anyone here has any experience with American Military University's master's programs in history. I got on the thread and mentioned that I had 18 credits towards an MA in Civil War Studies at American Military University. I was also intending to give the original poster my review of American Military University, but I quite frankly drew a blank and, at that point withdrew from the thread having only mentioned my half-complete degree there. Then I remembered that I had an old thread or two (actually, it turned out to be four) in which I had given my review of American Military University. So, I went to the search engine and gave these old threads the bumpity ...
