At $70/night, thats $2100 per month for a sleeping room? Really? That is lower than other accommodations in the area? WOW, who can be a full time student and pay that kind of rent? That's insane.

Heck, at that point, why not live well outside of Boston and commute? Since we are talking about one course that will meet probably two nights a week, this really shouldn't be a big issue.

Also, for people considering the ALM-IT, has anyone figured out some temporary working situation for the residency? I would like to be able to work if I do this.

    Cambridge IS outside of Boston.

Yeah, but not well outside, which was the suggestion, and if the purpose is to save money renting a place in Cambridge definitely isn't the way to go. A friend who lives there was telling me what rent is like there. Whoa!

Of course, there are options. Many students live in an adjoining town such as Somerville. The Allston/Brighton sections of suburban Boston are also a bit more affordable. If I were trying to sneak in that semester of residency at Harvard Extension I'd consider doing it during the Summer where you might have a good chance of subleting an apartment for the Summer semester at a reasonable rate. Otherwise, you could buy a minivan and spend the semester sleeping in your car inside one of the lovely Harvard University parking garages.
