Alright guys, My friend is active duty in the Navy and his dream is to be a game designer. What are some military friendly schools that he could attend for this subject? I do not know how it all works, but I guess he gets tuition reimbursement aside from the GI Bill as he is active duty. I do not know how much, etc. Thanks guys!
Oh geesh.....I know there is a DL degree program related to video game design, but I can't for the life of me think of the school right now.
DeVry University (DoD DANTES) American InterContinental University (DoD DANTES) Westwood College (NA/ No DoD DANTES) Art Institute (No DoD DANTES)
Awesome. Does anyone know if Fullsail is Military Friendly? Will any of these choices cost more than the tuition reimbursement he gets in the military?
Some more schools I have found, but does the Navy let their guys get tuition reimbursement on Game Degrees? The school must be DoD's approve. Especially through their DANTES. The Navy has nothing to do with it; 'cause the DoD pays for your friend's tuition assistance not the Navy. http://www.dantescatalogs.com/DEDC/Institutions.asp https://www.navycollege.navy.mil/
The game industry is very competitive and the burn-out / churn rate for employment in that industry is very high. Has your friend talked to anyone involved in the computer game industry? Now, a degree in computer game design could be beneficial in non-game-centric organizations such as the military, airlines, and military contractors such as Boeing and Lockheed Martin. A lot of training these days is performed used simulators and as such a background in game development and design might allow your friend to pursue his educational and career dreams.
