I thought we had plenty of Americans who want these types of jobs. According to Palm Beach County, they have over 5,000 people qualified to do hospitality work. If we put in place a merit system that only lets in high-skilled workers, then how will the Trump Organization staff its hotels? They don't appear to have an interest in hiring unemployed locals.

Wait....I thought that Trump is a xenophobe who wants to stop all immigration to the United States??

Hint: He's said many times that he welcomes LEGAL immigrants who want to work and not be a burden to society. So do I.

Seriously? Do you have to ruin the group think? What is wrong with you? Stop with your facts already! It hurts my feeling. It is clearly a macro-aggression.

Here is the database- it's not searchable by job seekers, so we don't get to see the pool of 5000 qualified candidates..... https://www.employflorida.com/vosnet/Default.aspx?plang=E

Having come from this industry, I'd bet the farm that this "qualified" group consists of many with long criminal histories, short employment records, history of workman's comp claims for "back pain" not to mention drinking and drug abuse issues, attendance issues, and other non-desirable qualities that have kept them from being employed in the LARGEST industry of service workers in our country. In this industry, unemployment is almost unheard of. MORE LIKELY is that restaurants and hotels are UNDERSTAFFED because it's hard to find workers.
Job changes happen often, playing musical chairs from this house to that- and to call a friend at another facility all but guarantees you'll have a job by dinner shift and a weekend banquet that needs another server or room attendant. UNLESS....... because, it's a small world. So, if you're a reliable employee, you're in demand. If you're a loser, everyone knows and it's very hard to land a job or two. As a line worker, everyone I knew had a full time job and still did events on the side or even had a second job. Hospitality worker who is unemployed? Red flag.

    From the horse's mouth:
Not, apparently, if it means hurting Largo bottom line.

The whole Trump's shtick is built around immigrant-baiting rhetoric; referring to "illegals" is there just for show. Consider the fact that Melania had worked in US illegally, if only for couple of months (and probably for no real fault of herself); while "chain migrants", "anchor babies" and DVP recipients had not. And, oh yeah, RAISE Act is explicitly about legal migration (and, in theory, could benefit me, especially if they fiddle with the formula a bit). It's not about legal status, it's about race and wealth.

Did you not hear about his proposal for a merit-based system that would favor highly-skilled workers? Hotel workers are not highly-skilled. He wants to bring in high-skilled people who will compete with Americans for good-paying jobs, but not people who will take the jobs Americans don't want. If there are so many qualified Americans for these low-paying jobs, then how come he needs to import foreigners?

You may not pay attention to what your cult leader does, but Trump's hypocrisy is already well-known. It's already known that the Trump organization has hired legal and illegal immigrants. It's also known that Trump has had products manufactured in other countries even though he says that he's against shipping jobs to other countries. It doesn't surprise me that a cult follower completely missed what the OP was drawing attention to.

Don't point out these well-known facts to the cult of personality for DJT. It'll make their heads explode. They want to pretend that the RAISE Act proposal doesn't exist.

Because Washington has created a system where it's more profitable to stay on welfare than it is to work many jobs. Plain and simple.

The welfare to work program makes it extremely difficult to stay on welfare forever without working or going to school. There's a limit to how long they'll let you stay in school without working. Many people with jobs make so little that they still qualify for welfare. But, the system is set up to penalize people with minimum wage jobs. Their benefits are drastically cut even though their wages do not cover basic living expenses. So, there is a disincentive to work, but the work requirement eventually kicks in, and you can't get out of it unless you're disabled.

My family was on welfare because my mother was disabled, and I was required to get a job or enroll in school after I turned 18 and graduated from high school. So, I know how the system actually works.

I had never thought about this before or heard it mentioned: What additional costs does the Secret Service have to do background checks on all of these foreign workers considering how much time DJT spends there?
