Does anyone around here have some experience with Manchester and doing their PhD via distance? Their structure looks not very distance learning friendly. They put a lot of emphasis on attending all the research seminars during the first year and even put on their website, that they only admit people for the part-time option who live within driving distance of the school. I suspect they are trying the via-distance people in their (more profitable) DBA. Would love to hear the opinion of anyone familiar with the MBS situation. Manchester PhD programme FAQs | MBS
Page 17 of the brochure says that the PhD is fulltime, on campus, versus the DBA, which is part time, blended learning. http://www.mbs.ac.uk/phd/_assets/pdf/DBA_brochure.pdf
Most of UK institutions require Doctorate students must visit every semester. That is lot of money for students outside of the European Union.
