What's the difference between Major vs. Concentration. I have heard people saying that COSC offers concentration but not majors so on and so forth.
As I see it, a major is a comprehensive and constructed track of courses. A concentration is much more loosely defined, sometimes having only depth and breadth requirements in a particular area of study. Rich Douglas, who majored with a B.S. in business with USNY, but who's B.A. from the same school has but a "concentration" in Sociology.
This topic has been discussed exhaustively in recent past. You may search defreeinfo archive with keywords "major" and "minor" or you can check this URL: http://www.degreeinfo.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000344.html Ike Okonkwo
I don't remember all too well (afterall, it was a number of years ago) but I do seem to recall something about major/concentration. Since I was studying towards a BBA, my "major", by default, was "business administration". I nevertheless had to declare a major-concentration (accounting, finance, marketing, etc.). The business requirements of the degree included specific business courses all BBA students had to take in addition to specific courses in the specialization/concentration. That is one distinction of the terms "major" and "concentration". I am sure it may apply also to other none BA/BS degree programs as well. Jeffrey
