Dear Friends:

I am looking for research leads. Specifically I am looking for scholarly studies, Dissertations and published articles that have examined the new Political Organizations SUCH AS MOVEON.ORG that have become profligate since the advent of the world wide web.

Pleas note, I am really not looking for political commentery, if I fell into the pile of that that I already have and died it might be years before my body was found, I'm specifically looking for scholarly work on any of these organizations or the subject these internet-based grassroots political organizations.

If anyone has any suggestions of where I should search please make your suggestions. Of course if you have read any such articles yourself that you found particularly interesting, I would also welcome those suggestions.

Thamk you all in advance!

From which perspective are you looking at these? Is it in general about the McCain-Feingold resulting 501/527 groups like moveon and swifties? Or about internet advocacy groups?
I suspect it to be the second so a good start might be Rheingold's "Smart Mobs". But I guess you found that already by yourself, right ;)

Thank you very much for you're suggestions. I'm really looking for ANY scholarly works onMOVEON.org, a case study? Material from any similar organizations that have grown up with the world wide web would be helpful.

I emphasize moveon.org because they are argAnything that would compare and contrast those like movon.org with those older interest groups such as the NRA and the AARP and how they have adapted to the www, as well as how the advent and growth of the www has affected the strategies and tavtics of these organizations, particularly in communicating to and motivating grassroots political activity.

I working on a concept for a book on the subject comparing how campaigns have changed and adapted some more effectively than others because of the web and I have lots and lots of studies and works on campaigns but I'm having difficulty in getting material on the organizations that are not diret campaign organizations.

For example moveon.org is a vertically integrated three level orgamization, a 501(c)4, a federal PAC and a 527. And operates very efectively in all three roles.
