    You can find the same thing here in the U.S., which has seven degree-granting maritime academies. I haven't looked at all of them, but noticed recently that the Maine Maritime Academy is getting into quite a bit of distance learning.

    Also, I took an online course several years ago through the California State University Maritime Academy, which most people simply refer to as Cal Maritime. Compared with the crappy online courses I have found elsewhere (including at other CSU campuses), the one I did at Cal Maritime was first rate.

    Most of the maritime academies specialize in training people for Merchant Marine fleets, but for several years my focus was on the trucking end of maritime transportation and much of my writing of manuals during that time dealt with port operations and homeland security. Fun stuff. Not to mention that when I transported ocean containers (which are 20 or 40 feet in length compared with the 53-foot length of a standard trailer), I could fit onto a lot more theatre parking lots. :D
