Goodbye BS in Business Administration and BS in Accounting, hello BS in Business Administration and Data Analysis and BS in A ‎ccounting and Data Analysis at Liberty University, both online and residential.

"Data Analysis" is now directly part of the title of each major. This applies to every specialization; for instance, the HRM program is now a BS in Business Administration and Data Analysis, Human Resource Management Cognate.

Liberty lists no graduate program with Data, Analysis, or Analytics in its title at this time though.

Analytics has become such a hot field that I have seen several programs add “Data Analysis” as a concentration or in the name such as Liberty.

If I were entering Accounting specifically I would be unhappy that they were watering down my degree by adding Data Analysis to the title. On the other hand, I feel like the Business Admin probably benefits from it. It's a bit odd to see a degree like "Business Administration & Data Analysis" with a concentration in Data Analytics as an option.

I can see this as an advantage. When there are a hundred applicants with the same degree and certification, you can be the one person that has something a little different.

The part that makes me scratch my head is this:

"Learn and Practice Biblical Stewardship with an Online Accounting and Data Analysis Degree"

Even when I was religious, I would have found that to be strange. I don't see how accounting and data analysis could be a way of practicing biblical stewardship. Or what biblical stewardship even means. :emoji_confused: Count that among several reasons why this degree isn't for me.

A couple of quotes from Google re: Biblical, or Christian Stewardship.

"Christian Stewardship refers to the responsibility that Christians have in maintaining and using wisely the gifts that God has bestowed. God wishes human beings to be his collaborators in the work of creation, redemption and sanctification. Increasingly this has referred to environmental protectionism."

"Stewardship, quite simply, is recognizing that everything we have and everything we are is a gift from God and being grateful and generous with those gifts. God reveals His perfect and infinite love for us most visibly in His Son, Jesus Christ. A steward makes God's love visible by imitating Jesus"

    Take your pick.

In the case of the accounting degree, I'm thinking the writer may mean stewardship of church assets - mostly money and often, real estate. It has a disturbing resemblance to the practice of some "religious exempt" degree mills. They sometimes surreptitiously mask secular degrees they can't award, under religious guise, like "MBA in Church Management." In the case of those schools, it's a blatant attempt to slide secular degrees under the radar.

I don't like the vibe that I get from this. But so what - I'm an Atheist - what I say doesn't matter to Liberty. All I'll say is that Liberty is a legit school. To me, this wrapping of religion into degree nomenclature resembles the tactics of those schools that are not.

I'm curious about how these titles will be an advantage in some contexts and a disadvantage in others. You can picture a prospective student who would have signed up for a major in Business Administration but might shy away from Business Administration and Data Analysis. Of course Liberty has many other majors to catch some of these students.

I also wonder what the process was like by which the university made this decision. For example, did impressing donors generally or a specific donor play a part?

Jesus saves, and it's hard to know which financial instrument is best for your savings without data analysis.

I doubt it's what it means here, but data analysis is actually very useful in some fields of exegesis - both secular and religious. For instance, the frequency of the word "happy" being used vs. "cheerful" can point to different authors of a text.

The whole sentence is weird though, even though I'm pretty sure Johann has it correct: accounting of church property and assets.

I've always been opposed to B.S. business degrees...

You find that business is more of an art than a science? ;)

I think it's more like a streetfight. Bring nunchucks to the Board Meeting to have any hope of winning.
