    Tenure is supposed to be a protection for free speech, and to permit research into areas an institution might want to disallow--academic freedom. Violating that undermines the role of the university in a free society.

    The idea of "reviewing" tenure is ridiculous. Faculty are already under review constantly and can be disciplined and even fired for cause, irrespective of tenured status. Tenure is not a shield against bad performance or conduct. But it IS a shield against institutional interference in the pursuit of scholarship and its contributions to society. Or, at least, it should be.
     
  3. Like many issues, this one is complicated. I've rather fond of tenure - I have it myself. OTOH, I don't see the classroom as the place for teaching ideology. If an instructor insists on doing that, perhaps they can have youtube seminars in the evening when they are done selling real estate.
