I thought for a minute that Cranfield U. sounded like a well-known UK mill, back in the old days. But no -- that was Suffield. Cranfield is a respected Uni, post-grad only, technology focused. Right. Stuff from THAT school is cool. Really.
The course AND the school sound great but Hey! The award is a Bronze Digital Learning Badge. I was expecting it would be a medal - pinned on a grad's chest, like a US Military Bronze Star, not a digital badge - like Credly. Well, in my world, there used to be a pretty simple logic "equation"! It went like it is on futurelearn => it has to be legitimate. When I learned that ubiquity University is there, too, I needed to rethink that a little... as most simple heuristics need to from time to time.
FutureLearn is pretty much the same as Coursera, Edx, Udacity and so on, they partner with colleges/universities, but are geared towards Australian or UK based universities... I really like these MOOC options from FutureLearn, for the non-credit courses, they don't interest me much, but their degree granting options do... They are legit and selective in their partners...
Umm - does that "legit and selective" statement include their choice of Ubiquity University? They're a degree-granting option, here. My take: It shouldn't.
To be fair, you can't enrol in a degree program from them at futurelearn. Just in a certificate course.
To be fair? That's kind of unusual, at least for me. But OK, then. I'll have to take a fairness pill..... There! I didn't realize that the degree programs weren't accessible from FutureLearn. . I went direct to Ubiquity's page and browsed the degrees --- oh my! But certificates -- that's OK. I've had the odd cert. from Udemy etc. from places that couldn't (and shouldn't) get accreditation in 1,000 years. You take the $12 hit and get on with your life. Next one could be terrific.
