A long over due howdy to the D/L sages at DegreeInfo !

It's been a brutal 1.5 yrs. since I joined Athabasca D/L U in Canada. I can now laugh with some authority at the likes of RJT (does the shill, still shill, here on the hill?) E.g., my current project is a 50 page research paper on emerging technologies. Gee, that’s 75% of KW’s graduation requirement -- for me, it’s a scant 1.5 credits (plus 1.5 for the final)!

I’m having a blast attending a real University, with real Professors and real hard work to accomplish -- KW, what a farce! I’ve read that they are/were being investigated or something to that effect?

And to him who dances in circles with regularity, THANKS JOHN! Our HR department now uses your materials to validate the schools of new hires, mostly from out of state. (TX that is).

This site registers as a milestone on my life chart. I can honestly say that without the candor of Bill, John and the other moderators of this chat, I’d probably be a graduate of KW by now. But I’d rather be a grad from Crusty the Clowns’ school of laughs, my sorry arse parked beside Homer Simpson.

Keep up the great work guys and gals. This site is the authoritative source for D/L info. It is through the selflessness of many and the foolishness of others that make this the best D/L source in the planet

    Cheers…Randy the OracleGuy

P.S. Has anyone heard about litigating against KW for tuition or academic fraud? I’d heard that the JD may allow this.

    Comments?

    Isn't it state-approved?

No. It operates from California without authority in that state. It has a license from Wyoming, but Wyoming explicitly states that such a license is not to be construed as approval by that state.

Irrelevant, since many diploma mills have been shut down by law enforcement authorities, even though the mills were operating with legal authorization from their respective states. Not that Kennedy-Western is a mill, of course, or that there is any reason to believe they are in trouble with the law. I have no information to indicate either.

RJT no longer posts here, it's sad but true.

KWU was the featured example for the recent congressional investigation into unaccredited institutions. The investigator testified that she was accepted into a KWU Master's program and that it didn't appear that KWU verified her life experiences claims. She was told that she only needed 5 classes to graduate. She passed 2 of these classes after only a total of 16 hours of study. She did have to take the first test twice but they didn't make her pay for the make-up because she failed the first time because there were bad questions which they fixed then sent her the same test (with fixes) to take over again.

My guess is that the owner of KWU believes that KWU is probably operating legally. Based on the fact that he seemed to cooperate so fully with the investigation. My personal belief is that KWU would probably be found to be operating with significant deception after a full investigation. They had an ex-admissions counsellor testify about KWU practices. He said that they apparently do cold calls of people that seem to be going through a personal crisis. The first caller tells them that they probably won't be accepted but that they should fill out an admissions application anyway. If they hesitate then they tell them that they must not want to better themselves. Once the application is reviewed by the non-existant admissions committee then as far as he ever saw, every single application was accepted. The percent of resources spent on admissions versus teaching was staggering and well within degree mill territory. (Unfortunately I forget what that was?)

P.S. The ODA now lists KWU as a degree mill.
