We don't even need to speculate! The Access Hollywood tape was released in October 2016. Many Republicans at that time asserted the party should elevate the vice presidential candidate to presidential candidate.

I think it was more peer pressure. The Democratic party leadership was concerned that going into the convention and having chaos and multiple candidates would be a large distraction. So apparently behind closed doors the decision was made to coalesce around Harris. Wasserman-Schultz and a number of others seem to indicate that. So I think party discipline kept anybody else from poking their head up to run. And if they had it probably wouldn't have gone well in terms of some retribution.

You may remember Lieberman working with George W Bush and was punished by the Democratic Party machine that turned on him and insured he lost his primary. They were then further outraged when he ran as an independent. I remember some fussy editorial saying how he was going to get his butt handed to him and what a stupid thing to do. But the voters in the district supported him and back into the Senate he went and stayed there.

This party discipline thing happens behind closed doors. I remember somebody who is no longer in the House saying that Pelosi basically told incoming freshman that they may be coming with their own ideas but they might as well shelve those because they were going to get on board with the party agenda. That is party discipline and they have ways of enforcing it in your district.

It is patently naive to believe that the party officials didn't arrange things and it goes against all logic. There are a lot of ambitious politicians out there would have relished the opportunity to run in a short amount of time as a presidential candidate. But with the party officials ensuring that everybody knew who the candidate was they got in line. Failing to get in line could have ended their political career. Getting in line leaves them open to positions in the new Administration.

I'm just a regular guy, not a politician.
Yes, I'm aligned more with Coservative views.
And to me this looked like some Soviet era thing.
I wouldn't like it if it was on GOP side as well.
Why I suddenly remembered a movie with Eddie Murphy, the "Distinguished Gentleman" making shady backroom deals with corporate lobbyists etc.

Thank you for demonstrating how absolutely out of touch with reality the Republican party is under Trump.

There was no time for any peer pressure to even be applied. There were a couple of other, what I consider more important pressures. First, there is not a whole lot of time left before the election. Second, the party is completely united behind the idea that Donald Trump must be defeated to save our democracy. Third, a drawn out political fight within the Democratic party would hand the Presidency to Donald Trump. Fourth, the funds already collected for the Democratic Presidential campaign can only be used by Harris or Biden. Fifth, Biden endorsed Harris and it is believed within the Democratic party that she will be a good candidate that can beat Trump.

Pro-Israel groups look to oust another progressive ‘squad’ member, this time in Missouri.

As pro Palestinian rioters and vandals prepare to terrorize universities and other locations, and the November elections are near and the academic year to start in September, this will be a challenging time.

Cori Bush lost the primary, so another Squad member bites the dust.

Now that is interesting. Israeli support in this country has always been strong. Although I don't remember ever seeing this kind of political power being exercised by the Jewish community prior to this time. I think that elected politicians are going to learn a lesson from it?

Maybe because of all the anti Israel protests and their supporters.
While China and Russia trying to push US and reduce US influance in Africa, Asia,
In Middle East it's Israel who are representing West and Western Democracy, US booths on ground so to speak.

Israel's longtime approach to those in its occupied territories disqualifies it as a paragon of liberal democracy.

When Israel detached from Gaza, import export, work, Electricity and Gas, all was provided to Gazans, no Israeli solders left in Gaza, Self rule, but Hamas took over with one agenda, destruction of Israel. terror attacks on Israelis.
Same in other former Jordanian territories, that promoted terror attacks on Israelis. Initially, if you were Israeli you could go to those areas, go shopping there, work in Israel was provided and in demand. But radical Islamists, with help from Arab countries, continued to terrorize Israelis. Legitimate settlement in those areas of ex Jordan, it's Israel like TX is US.
100 years old conflict over the land is still ongoing.
Violence between settlers and Arabs in those areas and between tribes of Arabs / Palestinians internally evolved.
London agreements may have worked, but Shamir PM at the time rejected it. Jordan would have been in control there.

CHICAGO – A group of uncommitted delegates to the Democratic National Convention and their allies warned Vice President Kamala Harris Monday that her chances of winning the presidential election are still threatened by her failure to embrace calls for an arms embargo and immediate Israeli cease-fire in Gaza.
They also could not guarantee an absence of disruptions inside the convention hall this week.

"We want our voices to be heard in a way that moves us forward," said Layla Elabed, a Palestinian-American from Dearborn, Michigan, -( i.e Hamas strong hold in USA)
    ---------
Political Jihad in its action. <<--- my opinion.

Crucial test for Dems and Harris.

Schopenhauer's Law of Entropy applies when a barrel of news contains a teaspoon of opinion.

Anyway, those few delegates may wish that's the case electorally, but I doubt it in reality.

Some earlier posts in this thread did not age well as the Democratic party demonstrates it's complete unification and solidarity behind our nominee. By that I mean that the posts look absolutely stupid to me today as I reread this thread. I think it shows people believing right wing nonsense they heard from some very unreliable sources.

It's just a show, because there is a common goal, winning the current elections.

Biden's are furious for the betrayal.
President Joe Biden was nicely, very nicely fired, with 4+ month notice.
Last night DNC show was nice but:
Only in June, The President of the United States had spoken — with 24 million Americans watching on TV.
Every Democratic leader knew Joe Biden would continue his campaign.
Statements like that used to mean something.
The reality is that Joe Biden still 'stunned' over the way he was pushed out of the race as he passes torch in DNC speech.
But Biden passed the baton to Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee ahead of November's election in his speech, in less than a month on from his shock withdrawal from the race. Putting the last night show aside:
Biden's are stunned and angry about the way President Joe Biden was pushed out of his re-election race".

"Those who pushed out Biden should be proud". "They saved him and their party from a likely crushing defeat, letting Trump snake back in and soil democracy."
Yet the former Biden chief of staff Ron Klain spoke with CNN's Anderson Cooper on Wednesday and said he disapproved of the coup against Biden.
"I think that was wrong," Klain said, arguing that Biden had fairly secured the nomination through the democratic process and was set on winning the White House again.

OMG, please stop with the ridiculous description of this as a "coup".

Joe Biden wasn't entitled to the Democratic nomination just because incumbents usually get it. And he wasn't entitled to continued support from Democrats after his disastrous performance at the debate revealed to the world that his brain is undeniably no longer in good enough shape to do the job of being president.

Nothing happened there except for normal on-sides political wrangling.

Agree, not a "coup". Here the word should be pushed out.
    • Biden is reportedly still upset about how top Democrats treated him at the end of his campaign.
    • Nancy Pelosi expressed no regrets about her role in pushing Joe Biden off the ticket. Ahead of the DNC, the former House speaker told reporters she "just wanted to win this election."
I do understand that they had to do something due to aging president's performance and the need to wing the elections.
