    Hit the ground running.

I know that when I was in the Marines we often "hit the ground running" when exiting helicopters, landing craft, parachuting, etc... if you didn't you were likely to get trampled...

On topic. Best of luck Michael!

Yea, life really sucks for me. I have a steady, dependable job. I don't make that great of money, but the benefits are fantastic. I love the kids and have fun at work every day. I have time to pursue another business that makes up for the poor income. I get the summers off. With a doctorate I get a pay raise and it opens up doors to becoming a principal, some of whom make six figures. Why would anybody want to work in education and be doomed to the terrible life I'm having? Somebody please help me face another day.

In all fairness though, (sarcastic joking aside) I can agree with you about people getting into the education business nowadays. Jobs are very difficult to get and the pay for those just starting out is not as good as it is for others with the same education.

Honestly, I think a lot of lazy people are attracted to teaching because the time off is legendary. What these people don't realize is how demanding of a job it is when you do work. You actually need that much time off, or you would go crazy. Teaching the material is not that difficult, the problem is controlling the kids and getting them to listen and learn. Many new teachers only last a few years and then burn out. If you are a parent, think of how difficult it is to keep your kid on task for 6 hours. Even getting them to do an hour of homework can be a battle, right? Now multiply that time 25 or 30 and you can see the problem.

It's not a money-driven field. In fact, I don't believe money-driven people belong in education anyway.

I am in the process of pursuing a teaching license because I want to teach children, not because I am wanting to make money. I currently work in higher education because it is more important for me to enjoy what I do than to make a ton of money selling widgets.

I absolutely hate corporate culture with a fervent passion. I've been in management before at a Fortune 500 company, and I have no desire to return.

People like me seek out education because it offers unique opportunities that business or other fields do not offer.

Good luck with this new endeavour. I think you have it right this time. I have also been looking at a B&M. From your experience, I now realized, perhaps I have been coming to this realization, that you can received almost any graduate degree from a B&M without too much professional sacrifice and with money to space. This does not bode well for virtual schools with bad service, bad reputation and with crippling high tuition cost.

However, there are some really good online schools out there and I think DL and online schools, the good ones, will eventually become mainstream.

I was talking to this guy I work with. I guess he was exiting a helicopter and "hit the ground running". He broke his ankle from the impact. I guess the "hitting the ground running theory" didn't work out to well for him. Many, many years later, his ankle is still jacked up.

Liberty U is indeed a better choice than NCU. Good luck.

So do you think Kevin was actually wishing I would break an ankle? :)

Yea, I think so too. It's especially good because I'm going to try to do about half the classes in person in the next couple of summers. Make a vacation out of it for my wife and I, take as many classes as possible and go tourist around Lynchberg and surrounding areas. Thanks for the good wishes!

    Great Job Michael

    Michael,
Congratulations on your acceptance to Liberty Universities EdD. program. I am a current student finishing up my MA Management and Leadership this fall... I can tell you that you will have some great professors. I have had an amazing experience with the school. Online registration, you can add and or drop a course through chat with an advisor. I would highly recommend using financial aid as it eases the $$$ issue etc. How was the process for you to get admitted? Did you have to jump through some hoops? Letters of recommendations and your evaluation for previous course work from NCU? Thanks for the reply and once again great job...

Thanks for the kind words, Elias. I have had no trouble in the admission process, but I have a high GPA and a high MAT score, so that opens a lot of doors. I haven't heard yet about the NCU course evaluations, those two classes may not transfer because I've switched from business to education. I'm really excited about Liberty and feel that it's where I'm supposed to go. I'm glad to hear that you have had such a positive experience. Let's stay in touch.

Which program are you starting so soon? I didn't think the online classes started until mid September. Are you going in-person?

Online--MAML program. Sub-term B starts 23AUG10 and ends 15OCT10. You are probably talking about sub-term C which starts in the middle of September. I started on B so that I can jump right into D after B is finished and I won't have an overlap.

Ah, I see. They have an odd schedule format there that I'm not totally clear on yet.
