    Urban tenements

Urban tenements occured in industrial as well. My post is equally applicable either way. You contended in your post that people would store their food in a store room. City dwellers generally had "A" room to live in. They would have to buy perishable goods and consume them almost immediately. Today, in Europe, they have itty bitty refrigerators and still pretty much shop for bread and meat every day or 2.....

Cutting ice and distributing was an industry in pre-refrigeration days. The modern refrigerator put a lot of people out of work. Dang technology put somebody else outta work!
Ice cutting pictures and information on "ice age" refrigeration:

Thanks. I should know that as I remember iceboxes but I couldn't recall what was done.

The first ice makers consisted of a vat of water into which was plunged the heart of an IRS agent. Froze right up!

    Re: Urban tenements

Again you misrepresent my argument. I mentioned most people living on farms, working together as families, and having store-rooms on the farm in PRE-industrial times. YOU mention urban tenements, which occurred DURING industrial times. Keep your chronology straight.
