I don't know how popular invading Cuba to rid them of Castro would actually be with the Cuban population. Certainly, there was no popular uprising during the Bay of Pigs attack. Rather to the contrary.

Castro overthrew a U.S. backed dictator whose Cuban supporters fled en masse to the United States where they have plotted and festered as "exiles" ever since. This is the big reason Cuban-Americans are so different from most other American Latino groups. Of course, this community is also a major source of hard currency for the Cuban economy...

In any event, if history is any guide, an American occupation would NOT be viewed as a liberation by a BIG chunk of the Cuban population.

One war of aggression at a time, please.

    Make love, not war, man!

It definitely wasn't a suggestion!

I meant popular with Cubans in Miami. In other words, I was wondering why no Administration has invaded Cuba as a pandering attempt to get votes in an important state -- although again, it was a political science question, not a proposal!

Shouldn't we be invading Afghanistan? Aren't they the ones that have been harboring Osama?

We twice invaded France and that didn't work so we'll not likely invade Afghanistan a second time. :)

I'm a little lost...we have quite a few troops in Afghanistan, both in the reconstruction and stability job, and in the fix, find, and destroy mission. It is the nature of the fight that proves rather difficult. The USA had a heavy reliance on sigint and elint (signal and electronic intelligence collection, and little in the way of humint, or human intelligence gathering) which has proved difficult once you toss the cell phones and find various ways to use the internet, etc. This has definitlely hurt us in the hunt for Osama.

This is not to say I wish I lived in Iran, because I don't. However, I have to ask why exactly it's okay that the countries that have nuclear power (or weapons, for that matter) can keep it, but those that do not can't develop it? Why is it that what it good for the goose is forbidden to the gander?

because some rogue nation like Iran or Iraq would actually use it?

As the size of the club increases the chances for a nuclear confrontation increase as well. There are some countries that are just not reliable. Iran is one of them. If Iran gets nuclear weapons, begin learning the shahada.

How many countries have used depleted uranium shells? Just the U.S. or is their use more widespread?

Sometimes I feel like a "depleted cranium shell". Does that count?
