    Degrees vs. Certs

From my own experience, in the IT world certs are more desired than degrees, unless it's required for your position or you are going to be a manager. Degrees aren't worth what they should be. I make six figures because of my certs and my experience, not my degrees... Which is unfortunate. But having a degree will set you apart from those who do not, which means it can be the deciding factor on getting a job.

03310151, we have the same A.A.S. degree. Were or are you a 2E?

    Paul,

    I am currently a 3C2, not smart enough to be a 2E ;)

I agree, for IT degrees are not very useful. Most of the IT or IS Master's content is not up to date or just too basic. Having a master's doesn't hurt but most employers put a lore more emphasis on the certifications. However, the bachelor's degree is a must so not having one will hurt your chances for higher paying positions.

You are so correct. And, by the way, there is a reason why the classical Greek word for leisure was schola.

Does a BA/BS automatically make you rich, the life of the party, get job offers from all over the country? probably not.

Is it useless? To have a credential that less than 1 out of every 4 people have? I don't think so.

They are building prisons at a much faster rate than they are building universities in the US. :D Sad but true.
