Any recommended masters level programs in International Relations/Affairs/Economics? So far, I've found the certificate program at Texas A&M and Masters program at Norwich. Any recommendations would be welcome. Thanks!

St. Marys in Texas, Salve Regina and Troy University all have masters degrees in international relations. Troy has the largest selection of courses and concentrations. Overall, I believe Troy's is the most interesting and reasonably priced program.

The two that readily pop to mind are Salve Regina University and Troy University (formerly Troy State University). Come to think of it, the MA in Political Science at Aerican Military University seems to have a fairly large International Relations component. As does the MSS in Political Science at Syracuse University (IIRC).

Thanks for the recommendations. Looks like a couple more programs out there than I thought! On a related - I just discovered the MA in Political Science (a related discipline) through Virginia Tech. If there are any other similar programs out there, let me know.

Hi, Mike! Back with my Bears' Guide, 15th edition, I find:

    American Military University www.apus.edu (BG15, 97)
    Deakin University www.deakin.edu.au (BG15, 108)
    Monash University www.monash.edu.au (BG15, 122)
    University of New England www.une.edu.au (BG15, 141)
    University of Pretoria www.up.ac.za (BG15, 143)
    Salve Regina University www.salve.edu (BG15, 170)
    South Bank University www.lbsu.ac.uk (BG15, 172)

And Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University's link is www.vt.edu . Definitely a program to lust after.

If you say so, but I found Virginia Tech's programs to be overpriced, and besides, the school isn't really known for its Political Science offerings.

It's too bad. As a native Virginian, I can't help but see UMUC across the river and think that it could have been us. I mean, we were the ones with "Internet C@pital" on our license plates....

Hi Mike - You're obviously aware of the International Relations - Political Science crossover. There's another as well. It's the International Relations - Diplomacy/Peace Studies crossover.
For this you can look at
    Antioch U
    Cal State Dominguez Hills
    Monash U
    Nova Southeastern U
    U of New England
    U of Pretoria
As for Economics, I would suggest that you look at the U of London external program. They offer several Masters degree programs within the realm of Economics. Good luck.

    Hi Mike:

I'm enroled at the University of Staffordshire MA in International Policy and Diplomacy.

The program is quite interesting, and there's a lot of tutor support.

    http://www.staffs.ac.uk/schools/art_and_design/postinfo/maintpolicydl.htm

There's a January intake, so you can still apply.

Another program: University of Sheffield's MSc. in Chinese Business and International Relations. The next intake is in October 2007. I've been admitted to that intake, actually. The 3 residency requirements can be waived if you're not taking Chinese language courses.

Please do let me know if I can help you in any way.

    Kind regards,

    joi

    Mike:

Also, if you can afford the US$ 52000 price tag, take a look at the Global Master of Arts offered by the Fletcher School at Tufts University. This is a very prestigious program, and requires only 3 residencies. You don't live far from Mass., apparently, so this may not pose any problems.

    Mike:

You may also want to take a look at 2 Australian universitities offering an Online MA in International Relations:

    Macquarie University www.maaquarie.edu.au

    Deakin University www.deakin.edu

Cambridge University also offers a MSt. in International Relations. It involves several visits to Cambridge, takes 2 years and costs GBP 9,500 for overseas students (next intake: September 2007, but you must contact them in August 2006)

As for the Virginia Tech program, you can actually turn it into and International Affairs degree, as it offers several IR related courses.

There are several other IR related masters, but it would be better if you could tell us your career plans, to be able to help you best.

    Cheers,

    joi

Thanks Joi for the great recommendations. Like many others, I still am not sure what I want to do when I grow up!

My undergraduate degree is in international relations (emphasis in Econ, minor in German) and I am completing an RA MBA program. I still have a strong interest in IR and Political Science (which is why VT sounds really appealing - especially if I can do an IR emphasis). I would love to enter a Ph.D. program in Poli Sci or something similar - but would want a B&M program.

In the meantime, until I finish my MBA program, I'm also looking into certificate programs to give me more emphasis on some business skills (e.g., leadership, etc.).

Thanks for asking - any recommendations are always welcome.

By the way, the program at Staffordshire sounds quite interesting. I'd be interested to hear your perspective on it!

    Mike:

I've been completing the first module at Staffs for 5 weeks now.

Up to the moment, the program is quite good. They require us read extensively and write 2 to 3 posts in the form of essays each week.

We are rquired to actively engage in discussions, although there;s been some slowing down in the last couple of weeks. I consider this to be normal, as I'm also enrolled full time in the Online masters in Public Policy and Management and have seen this pattern in students taking their first module on a part time basis.

The quality of the books in the Staffs program is excellent, and are included in the course fees. The installment program makes it quite conforrtable to pay for the course.

    That's more or less it.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

According to Bears' Guide, it appears that South Bank University www.lbsu.ac.uk offers the PhD in International Politics.
