    Such a waste.

I would love it if some employees got together and wanted to take courses as a cohort. Our company would pay for the degrees and give them an hour per day in release time to work on coursework. I'm always happy when I see an employee, at any level, taking advantage of our tuition assistance. It's always a shame when people ignore the good of the overall organization to try to make some sort of silly self-serving statement.

It wasn't even self-serving, it was actively others-disserving. What a jerk!

National University got its start because of a similarly biased comment, this one from a university official.

In the early 1970's David Chigos, a senior manager at General Dynamics who held a PhD from US International University (now merged into Argosy U.), wanted his managers to learn more about leadership and business management. He approach San Diego State University with a big idea: have SDSU offer MBA courses at night for a cohort of his managers. The company would pay for this, of course. An official at SDSU responded by saying, essentially, "If you're serious about educating these people, they should leave their jobs and come to school." Chigos was so infuriated he started his own university, keeping the school records in the trunk of his Cadillac. A decade later National was the 2nd largest private university in California. IIRC, it still is.
