I have a co-worker who has approached me on seeking a M.S. with a specialization in Taxation. He has a RA B.S. in accounting currently.

Any suggestions or schools that have a DL for this specialization would be great so I can pass it on to him.

    thanks,

    Jonathan

Taxation in particular is a legal specialty as well as an accounting field. It happens that Taft University (DETC) offers lawyers a Master of Laws in Taxation but the same program is also available to non lawyer accountants as a Master of Taxation.

Sorry; that should read Master of Science in Taxation or M.S.T.

I have a colleague in U.S. tax who is enrolled in this program. She uses the course materials in her work (even more than the materials she used to get her CPA).

    Good luck!

Bears' Guide lists the following accredited DL master's programs in taxation.

    Golden Gate University www.ggu.edu (BG15, 113)
    Old Dominion University www.odu.edu (BG15, 125)
    University of Pretoria www.up.ac.za (BG15, 143)
    Regent University www.regent.edu (BG15, 128)

Bears' Guide also lists one unaccredited DL master's (MST/LLM) and doctoral (PhD/JSD) program in taxation.

    Washington School of Law www.wsltax.org (BG15, 224)

This school is accepted for CPE credit by the Treasury, Internal Revenue Service for Enrolled Agents, the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy, and by the state boards of accountancy of virtually states requiring such approval.

Unfortunately, for whatever reason, ODA put Washington School of Law on its disapproved list. So if you plan on using the degree in Oregon, you should probably look elsewhere...

HEY!! They CHANGED it!! Oregon's ODA has APPROVED Washington's master's degrees.

But the doctorates remain under the ban.

    Two questions:

    1. Wasn't there an old thread about a master's in taxation in Florida (other than Nova) or is my memory getting foggy in my senescence?

    2. Is the Regent program still around? I thought I might have seen an old thread on that one.

Can't seem to find that old thread I thought I remembered, but I no longer see Regent's LLM Taxation on their website either.

The Regent LL.M. was in International Taxation as opposed to the usual LL.M. in Tax. It was VERY expensive and seems to have died.

St. Thomas School of Law has also apparently discontinued its Tax LL.M. program. It is no longer available either resident or online.

Yes, but the school's own website says that the LL.M. degree is not being offered at this time.

I wonder what gives. The ABA has no interest in online J.D. programs but issued what amounts to an open invitation for law schools to offer D/L LL.M. degrees. I think that UConn may offer the only D/L LL.M. left (from an ABA school, that is.)

I was recently checking out Taxtalent.com and noticed a solicitation for certificate programs at St. Thomas University. I clicked and it appears their LLM in taxation is up and running:

    http://www.llmprogram.org/

It's open to accountants and tax pros as well as lawyers. Pretty expensive at $675 per credit plus $1500 software and database fee. It's only 28 semester credits though.
