I had a great chat with IGNUO last night. The advisor I talked to was very nice and set me up with a student number and I was approved to take the MSW right here in Texas when I finish my BS. At $2,000 a year it will bring the total cost to $4,000. I filled out the ap last night and emailed it to her, now I just need to finish up my BS from EC (needs to be RA) and I going to do it.

Best thing is that it allows me to sit for the SW exam in Texas.

p.s. I have to sit for my exams at the Consulate General of India in Houston. I also might have to make one trip at the end of the program (I hope) to India. I have to say the school was very nice and very helpful.

How will you get around the requirement of Title 22, §781.401 that mandates a degree from a CSWE-accredited program?

They have a foreign degree evaluation service. Basically if your degree allows you to sit for the exam in that country and it meets the educational guide lines in the US then they will accredit and approve your degree. CSWE accepts their degrees as meeting their standards.

That's facinating. I hope that works out for you- if it does, then you would be a part of the huge breakthrough that I feel that DL is in the middle of.

I was looking at their MA in Translation Studies- the price on their website ammounted to almost nothing in USD, but then I read a post saying that they charge a different, higher, fee for foreign students.

Where do I find the tuition breakdown for American students? If the MATS is $4k like the MSW, thats a heck of a lot more expensive than the website says. I'd rather look at UNISA.

It's $2,000 a year. But the program I want to attend has programmatic accreditation in India from what I understand. The cheapest US degree at distance for SW is about 10x that amount so I would save about 38K.

I still need to look into UNISA and see if it can be used in the US.

Right now IGNOU is topping my list but I will keep looking. St. Mary University College in Rwanda offers a MSW as well….I’m looking into that.

Can you link the program so that people using the search engine can have a reference point? And congrats!

When you say "they" are you referring to Texas? Also, how did you learn that CSWE accepts the IGNOU MSW as meeting their standards?

Finally where did you locate the tuition information ($2,000/year)? Thanks and best of luck!

Hey Tom... we have the same BS. I finished in 2009 and you're the first non-cohort person I've come across. What did you think of the program?

Smart move :) Looking at the Indian prices on the site, the MSW is a different cost (higher. in fact, much higher) than other Master's degrees. I imagine that this means that the American prices are also different. Maybe I should do this whole "calling" thing that you like to do.

Had to buy a calling card to do it. 1 cent a min.

I thought it was a good program. The instructor that I had for my cohort was excellent and the classes were interesting. If anything, I thought it was a bit too easy.

Hmm... nothing has changed very much then. I feel like I tried much harder than my classmates, and I really wondered what their grades were like compared to mine. Anyway, we can talk about this in a Bellevue thread. I don't want to be a hijacker.

Hello, just wanted to ask if you finally pursued MSW from IGNOU? I am in States currently pursuing my MSW from IGNOU and was wondering if the degree has any scope in USA?

I'm afraid that b4 hasn't graced us with his presence for a couple of years so you're unlikely to get a reply. Sorry.
