I noticed on the IACBE website that a public hearing by CHEA for IACBE recognition will be held on 11/24/2008 in Washington, D.C.

Would someone that is knowledgeable on the CHEA recognition process explain the importance of IACBE obtaining this recognition if any? Would this be the last step in obtaining CHEA recognition?

    Bruboy,

Please provide a link to the above mentioned quote.

I went to the site and the only thing that I could find was the following and I hope this helps.

    http://www.iacbe.org/html/chea.html

The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) serves as the recognition body for institutional and specialized accreditors. In January 2006, CHEA declared the IACBE to be eligible for CHEA recognition.

In February 2008, the IACBE submitted its self-evaluation for CHEA recognition. Those materials have been reviewed by CHEA staff and the IACBE has been cleared to move forward with recognition. Accordingly, CHEA will send a site visit team to the IACBE Board of Commissioners meeting on August 5.

The IACBE’s public hearing before the CHEA Committee on Recognition will take place on November 24, 2008 in Washington DC.

So the meeting has come and gone...here is an exerpt from the IACBE website...

The IACBE’s public hearing before the CHEA Committee on Recognition took place on November 24, 2008. The IACBE was represented by Dr. Fred Nerone, Chair of the Board of Directors; Dr. Terry Girdon, Chair of the Board of Commissioners; Dr. Beth Castiglia, Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect of the Board of Commissioners; Dr. Meg Galligan, Great Lakes Region Representative on the Board of Directors; Bill Parrott, IACBE’s Director of Member Services; and Dr. Bob Roller, IACBE President.

The recommendation from the CHEA COR will be forwarded to the IACBE no later than December 24, 2008. The COR’s recommendation will be acted upon by the CHEA Board of Directors on January 26, 2009. (http://www.iacbe.org/html/news.html)

So CHEA recognition will surely add credibility to some of the smaller business programs with IACBE accreditation...

Sure, getting CHEA is the big stamp of approval everyone is trying to attain.

Here is a great little read put out by ACBSP about their 'nasty rival' IACBE and the CHEA process.

It looks like any reference to CHEA recognition has been stripped from the IACBE website. Does anyone know if their request has been denied by CHEA or if they withdrew their application?

Perhaps I spoke prematurely, by stripped I mean that CHEA is not referenced under their website's drop down menus or news section.

Looks like IACBE is awaiting January 26, 2009 for CHEA's decision. http://iacbe.org/html/chea.html

The CHEA Board of Directors considered this issue in their meeting on January 26, 2009.

They apparently decided, based on the recommendations of the CHEA Committee on Recognition, to:

IACBE has granted accreditation/Institutional memberships to a lot of less than wonderful schools. If you go to their website and look at the list ..its evident.
