Hypothetical scenario question regarding recalculated CLEP score

I just got a letter in the mail today saying that the CLEP English exam score I received 9 months ago was being changed from a 65 to a 64 due to a scoring mistake. Being that most colleges award credit at 50 or higher, this wasn't a concern but it made me wonder what would have happened if my score had changed from a 50 to a 49? It's possible that in the last 9 months, I could have used those 3 credits earned by testing to graduate with a degree. The letter said any schools where you reported your score would be notified of the score change. What would the schools do if you already graduated and now they get word that your once passing score is no longer passing?

That's an interesting question - my son received the same letter - and he went up one point. I can't see a school rescinding a degree over it. It's a circumstance beyond your control.

I agree that this is probably what would happen but technically, you did not pass a required course for your degree. It is outside of your control but I wonder if they could make you retake the CLEP or take a class from the school if they offered distance learning. I wonder if CLEP would get involved somehow to help smooth things over and maybe "find" you an extra point to get you back to 50.

Actually, what I think would probably happen is the school would get notified of the score change and it would get filed in the circular trash bin.

I, too, received one of these in which my score went up from a 64 to a 65. Obviously, no problem for me but I was wondering the same "what if" scenario for someone who barely passed. Also, what caused CLEP to go back and have a second look at all of these past test scores? Hmmm.....

I wonder if you would get a refund from CLEP if your score went from a 49 to a 50 and you had to retake the exam only to find out that you actually did pass the first time.
