I know all about budget cuts in Florida. I use to work for the state. It's suddenly a crises, but when money is needed for beautification projects, international travels, and new extravagant buildings, money suddenly appears. Florida is always running a deficit, then all of a sudden a surplus falls out of the hat. Then a spending bonanza, then budgets cuts all over again. :D It's a never ending vicious cycle.

That's a pretty low blow AU. The man has said he is disabled. He works when he can, and gets by on hardly anything. Are you disabled? are one of your children disabled? Do you know if a future child or grandchild will be disabled? No, you don't. When that happens to someone personally, they ask for whatever assistance is available because a normal working family cannot afford all the medical/rehab expenses associated with having a disabled child. These people should be helped, at least in a country that purports to be a "Christian Nation" as many like to say.

You comments transported me back in time. I once had my cousin over at my house. He has paranoid schizophrenia. My then right wing friend decided to come over to my house at the same time, and told my cousin he could work, he was just lazy, blah blah blah , right wing crap, blah. So what did I do? I escorted my friend out to the front of my house, and told him to leave and never come back. He hesitated, and I told him he better leave before I started to methodically break his bones so he could see what if was like to be disabled. He took off. This was a friend I had for many years, but he does not exist to me since that day. Good riddance.

    But so is life,

That's an oxymoron, Jesus said that his kingdom was not of this world (John 18:36).

In reality, right-wingers may be anything from Monk to Atheist, but on TV and radio, they are almost exclusively self-proclaimed Christians. It's funny to me because thousands of years ago, when God actually did have a nation on earth, he made what would be termed these days as "welfare" a part the law (Leviticus 19:9, 10; Deuteronomy 24:19-22; Psalm 37:25).

If he is disabled then I apologize, but I don't recall him ever posting that here. He said he had diabetes, that's not a disability. I'm not right winged, I'm actually relatively moderate, but this notion of instituting all of these programs that are currently bankrupting the European countries we are modeling them after is asinine. I don't agree with the Health Care law or the people who support it. If that makes me an asshole than so be it. Doesn't mean I'm not right.

Great story about your friend. Had you said that to me, I'd have beat your ass in your own front yard.

I was told, by someone that I don't remember, that conservatives were more patriotic than liberals. Actually I think he said that if you were liberal then it meant that you were less patriotic. I was so shocked that I couldn't think what to say. This conversation made me think of something that I could have said. If it is true that being liberal makes you less patriotic then it must also be true that being conservative must mean that they are more heartless.

    Does that work?

Diabetes, nerve damage in my hands and feet, a heart condition, eye problems and kidney issues but my only options given by the state is go on government assistance entirely OR work and not get any medical help other than the free clinic and the ER. And I'm of average weight and do my best to take care of myself but with my income its simple in Florida to get it I would need to meet SSI disability standards and be unable to work, but I can work over the poverty line in income at the Federal level just not much over. So no help and I can't afford even basic care.

So its fine if I was on SSI and got Medicaid and mooched of the citizens but if I want to work I get nothing. I like the new law in one area its based on my income not disability status so I can get Medicaid without jumping through hoops. Is it ideal ,no, but some people have to get what we can get. If I couldn't be productive and work then why go on I do not like burdening people if this was Europe ,say Norway, I would pay taxes and that would pay for care and everyone pays into it that is fair.

What is wrong with making a living even if very modest, paying taxes and getting access to basic medical care include preventative care since if I can work and earn enough I can afford housing, food, clothing, shelter and other things and not get that from the government or other parties. Its in fact the best option then I am producing and not taking as much and work makes me feel good and useful that is also positive. It seems to me critics of the law miss that without it most people earning modest incomes won't have insurance, end up in the ER for care where most of the time its passed on to everyone else anyone since in my case they are unlikely to get paid and state law prevents the hospital from billing me.

Wow... I leave this thread for a couple of days and what happens? AUTiger and the Major gang up on a mentally impared newborn, slap fight with Maniac, AUTiger unzips his trousers to whip out his Harvard diploma and promptly gets kicked in the bare backside by Abner in Abner's front yard.

(note the above was sarcasm or "joke" for all you non-Harvard folks)

The only difference is you were lucky enough to be born with your faculties and can stick up for yourself. I understood your joke but making fun of babies is usually in bad taste, making fun of mentally impared people is also usually in bad taste whereas making fun of mentally impared babies can be said to always be in bad taste. I'm not offended by it, but I did find myself losing a tiny bit of respect for you (not that it matters to you or I, just a future reference kind of thing).

For the record I'm a conservative and agree with much of the sentiment of AUTiger with the exceptions that the government does owe basic services to the public, that's why we created it. A flat tax that is universally applied is fair and makes sense. I also feel that the middle class are being woefully exploited under our current tax structure. Our current etitlement system is abysmal, it discourages self reliance even from those that have the ability to earn some money, the "all or nothing" system we have now should be replaced immediately.

Our immigration policy sucks but the laws as they stand, combined with occassional enforcement and no hope of a quick, inexpensive and legal means of becoming a U.S. citizen only makes our system all the more inhumane. There's nothing wrong with people wanting to come to America, it's the best country on earth, we should encourage this desire. But breaking up families because of a failed system really isn't the way to go either.

As for Christianity and politics...our government is an amoral organization by design. It is driven by policy and law not faith (which is a good thing since my faith may be different than yours). I wouldn't care if a candidate was professing to be Christian, Muslim or Mormon just as long as they are a good leader. Being Christian or not is a matter between an individual and God, not political points on a score card.

Anyhow this thread kind of died about three pages ago so I'm out...

The idea that if you are liberal, you are automatically less patriotic, is just as silly as the idea that if you disagree with President Obama's political philosophy or policies, then you are racist.

Hahahaha....what are you, 12? My dad can beat up your dad.

I'd be willing to bet you're a stereotypical West Coast liberal. Y'all get into shouting matches and as soon as some breaks up the "altercation" you start talking about how lucky the other guy is someone was there to break it up.

Your "friend" is better off without you.

MC, your comment made me laugh.

You're right, I shouldn't have made fun of Obama. For the record, in all seriousness I don't feel I was making fun of Tripp, but for those who were offended by it I offer my sincere apologies.

MC, in regards to your post regarding God and welfare, you're correct. The difference is it wasn't forced upon you,it was a matter of choice. I'm all for charity, but I don't want it to be dictated to me by the government. You should give out of a desire to give, not because a group of elected officials told you you had to.
If they lowered taxes I'd bet that charitable giving would increase.
