Good. Do this and finish. Thank you for introducing us to U Wy, the next 2/3 of the Big 5.

I think there is a difference in finishing what you start (I do it everytime) and finishing and looking back and saying, "Damn, I should have...." (I do it everytime too).

Have a look at Athabasca U. You can transfer in the full 90 credits into the Bachelor of General Studies (BGS). Save yourself 30 credits then move onto ENMU

Wow, I didn't know about Athabasca's BGS. The fees are exceptional! However, what is the likelihood that ENMU, or any school for that matter, would accept a 90-credit bachelor's for admission into graduate school? I'm thinking 0... unless anyone has any experience with this?

Well, you already know what I'm thinking, but Benchmark tells me to post again anyways. Life is short. The night is young. You have fresh breath. Get it over with. For the most part, we all recognize the shortcomings of any program you are going to get into.

Your real education is pursued independently, and most relevant learning will be accomplished either on the job or on your own time. Just get the degree, whatever it is, as long as it's not completely worthless, and move on. Good luck, either way.

I disagree because I can prove it. Anyway, transferring 90 credits to get a degree does not prohibited you from continuing your lifelong learning and doing another 30 credits to earned another degree.

According to ENMU, the following are the basic admission requirements to their graduate school:

"Graduates of a regionally accredited college or university or whose institution is recognized by the Commission on Recognition of Post-secondary Accreditation (CORPA) may apply for admission to the Graduate School."

Athabasca holds regional accreditation through middle states!

Now, on to the Athabasca 90-credit BGS. At first glance it looks great, until you read the fine print. AU is very picky in the courses that they will accept in transfer (very few 100 level courses and limited exams). However, I would definitely take a close look at this program before writing it off (especially if ENMU will accept it as meeting the requirements for admission to their MBA program). Hey, maybe you could rock some PLAR credits! Anyway, the requirements may have changed since I last had a look and why would you take anything that someone on the Internet has to say at face value?!

Don't you think it would be more fun to just keep throwing out ideas/programs for MC to ponder purely for our entertainment as he posts yet another degree path that we can tell him is great that he will eventually determine isn't right for him?
It's almost endearing how indecisive he seems.

    Please do!
Yeah, but it would cost more to do it that way, so I'd rather not, unless the BGS would work just fine to get into the MBA program.
Yes, the way this is phrased makes it sound like the Athabasca BGS should work, but then again, my Excelsior AA already makes me a "graduate of a regionally accredited college or university," and I can say with confidence that an AA isn't good enough. The only way for me to know for any certainty would be to ask them, but then, I couldn't be 100% sure if the answer they gave me was true
It looks like they wouldn't accept my CLEP, so they are out of the picture anyway. It's a good find though, I could really be of help to some of my friends by telling them about Athabasca!

At this point, I'm only interested in programs that might get me to the same goal but at less expense. Hear that, friends? I'm not going to change direction anymore! Although, I'd still be interested in switching vehicles. :tongue2:

I made up some mock edits to my resume to see how it would look with the BA in Social Science and the MBA on it. It looks amazing, and all of a sudden I'm excited about my degree again. I just need to figure out the logistics then draw up a plan. If it is doable and as inexpensive as I estimate, then it is full speed ahead, bombs away, gung-ho, who let the doooooogs out, hoo, hoo, hoo, hoo?!

MC could have tested out of a BA degree by now if he had put as much work into testing as he does investigating and pondering programs.

Might be worth calling around to find out... I don't think I have ever seen a school that states you have to have a 128 credit hour bachelors....just a regionally accredited Bachelors.....

I have heard of schools requiring leveling coursework or not accepting admission from holders of 3-year bachelors degrees. I can't remember which ones off of the top of my head though, as it was several years ago when I noticed this.

It's possible that if you have an additional 30 credits from CLEP/DSST that aren't a part of the 90 credits in the BGS, you may be considered to have the equivalent of a 4 year bachelor's.

That would kind of be redundant. I've already determined that Athabasca won't work for me, but it is an incredibly interesting option. Especially for people like me who flounder for months at a time and just might never get 120 credits.

    My Mock Resume

    Education

    Master of Business Administration
Eastern New Mexico University (Portales, NM)

Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences
Thomas Edison State College (Trenton, NJ)

OOOoooOOOOh, it looks so nice! For one thing, "Social Sciences" and the names of the schools look way better on paper than they originally did in my head. For the fun of it, how about we look at these (which I will likely never do, but it would be cool if I did) as well...

Wow, even degrees from India and South Africa all of a sudden find their charm when you put them in resume format.

That was a fun little exercise. Now on to that BA...

    :repost:

My goal is now set in stone- I am pursuing a BA in Social Sciences from Thomas Edison State College. I have not yet enrolled, but will at the proper time. Simultaneously, I am working on filling the prerequisites for an MBA at ENMU. Also simultaneously, I am going to see if I can use all of these business credits to help me get an AS in Business Administration from Clovis Community College. A 3-in-one shot, here, and at the lowest possible prices that I can find

So wait, why the AS? The AS in Business won't require me to take any more courses nor exams than I wouldn't have already in just pursuing the Bachelors, and since I will be using it as transfer credits into my Bachelor's degree, the expense will still be covered by the AO Tax Credit. The prerequisites for an MBA amount to 24 some-odd credits, but I would have neither a degree nor even a minor to show for all of that. The AS gives me something in business to show off while I await the completion of my MBA. OR, it would leave me with a business degree to keep on my resume for life if I end up not following through with the MBA at all. It makes a lot of sense for me to do. I just need to see what Clovis' CLEP/DSST policy is, since I'm looking at taking 4 business related exams, and doing the rest from Clovis and LSU.

Poor Excelsior College, though. When I am done with all of this, there would be no good reason at all for me to keep them on my resume. EC did me well when I needed them, but it looks like it is already time to say goodbye.

I have the new Clovis exam policy some where....let me try to dig it up for you. They suck though on what exams they take.
